If he stays and can finish up the hill on an undulating track and is as good left handed as he is right handed then he must have a very good chance in the race. He is best price 10/1 though.
I still rate him as being potentially a dangerous horse here, though I think when you look back on his career he will be a horse who always showed his best at tracks like kempton as opposed to tracks like Cheltenham.
He actually has decent form at cheltenham and his 2nd from a mark of 155 in a hcap here as a 5yo taking on his elders is exceptionally strong form though Starchitect was 7 lengths clear and would have bolted up but for sadly breaking down and he would have only been.3rd。 That’s still decent form though in his 3 races at cheltenham he hasn’t really finished his races so well up the hill but of course he is still improving. For me he is a flat track horse. Time will tell。
January 15, 2019 at 11:50 #1392574I took 33’s same time I took 33’s for the king george.

That’s an excellent piece of punting and hats off to you Jamie, I’m certainly impressed.
I just read the king george thread and you didnt tell us about the king George or gold cup bet til after the race (you little tinker you, keeping it all to yourself tsh tsh).
It was actually 50/1 and not 33/1 you got on the gold cup.
I’m not one to usually blow my own trumpet, especially after the event but backed Clan Des Obeaux a few times at 33/1 after the Betfair. (Also 50/1 for the gold cup). What’s 17 points between friends though.
Cracking bet fair play
Are you not worried about his tendency to jump right handed and his apparent preference for flat tracks though?
Mind you that said at 50/1 it’s worth the risk absolutely and I wouldn’t mind a piece of that at that price as a little saver on my bet.
Best of luck my friend.
January 15, 2019 at 13:20 #1392584Oops, 50’s it is. I have the king george bet in a few multis for cheltenham as well so a nice start. I hadn’t been on here much as been away before and during xmas so yeah a bit of an afterthought. Nicholls has always said he’d improve with age and exeprience and thought a lot of him. I do think last seasons novices will improve past last years brigade and the king george could well already prove that. EE, PP, ABP et al, can well see any of those filling the first three as well as CDO..a new dawn for staying chasers is on the horizon. Yes his jumping does cause concern, just hope it’s on the softer side and he doesn’t get taken off his feet early, as like EE, need to be up with the pace so as to not get too outpaced when they turn the screw. Should be a belter, and hope they all turn up, including Might Bite as I rate him as a decent horse.
January 16, 2019 at 09:01 #1392646Valtor – possible Gold Cup dark horse?
Although he might not be an obvious Gold Cup winner at this point, it is interesting that connections have entered Valtor in both the Gold Cup and Ryanair. He sprang a surprise when winning the Silver Cup at Ascot before Christmas, off a BHA mark of 148, talked of at the time in terms of the Grand National. He has been raised to a mark of 160, and could well have the chance to run off it at the weekend, entered in both the Peter Marsh at Haydock and the Portman Cup, a valuable new race over three and a half miles at Taunton. A victory in either of those off his new mark would certainly suggest he’s a serious Gold Cup candidate and might also make the National less appealing, with a mark raised even further.
I wonder if Henderson entering Valtor in the gold cup is a sign that Might Bite wont make it. 50/1 at the moment the price will certainly drop markedly should he win whichever of the two races he is entered in over the weekend.
Winning a hcap from a mark of 160 on his 2nd uk run could easily see him.line up as a 170 plus animal on the day and odds of around 16/1 after the win (assuming of course he did win).£10.00 at 95.0 available on betfair at moment may be a nice little trade available. Take that £940 profit lay off at guaranteed much much shorter odds after he wins Saturday. Free bet to nothing.
I’m not going to do it but if anybody believes he will win tomorrow it has to be a smart move regardless.
personally I could never cheat on my love and back another horse even as a tactical plan. But could be a smart play.
January 16, 2019 at 09:44 #1392647Any chance that OK Corral will get a Denman entry with a view to a Gold Cup supplement?
January 16, 2019 at 10:02 #1392648No would be my opinion. Only 2 chase starts both in 4 runner races on sharp tracks. The gold cup is no place to send this horse.
If Clan Des Obeaux and Native River both go.for the denman (I doubt they will want to take each other on pre cheltenham) they would both destroy him for fun.Personally I wouldn’t fancy him for the RSA never mind the denman and gold cup.
January 16, 2019 at 12:43 #1392656SHATTERED LOVE is confirmed by Gordon elliot as going straight to the cheltenham gold cup.
Came out of last race with sore shins, Irish gold cup ground will be too fast so.is going straight to cheltenham.
January 16, 2019 at 14:20 #1392660Henderson really fluffed his lines with the Grand National plan for Valtor, something he has done a few times recently ( Triolo D’Alene being one other example )
The form of that last race looks questionable so I think Gold Cup is almost certainly out of reach.
January 17, 2019 at 14:59 #1392734I see Presenting Percy is entered for the Galmoy Hurdle next week, as well as the Irish Gold Cup the following week. Won the Galmoy last year so wouldn’t be a surprise if the went down the same route again, assuming conditions are suitable.
January 17, 2019 at 20:30 #1392767Any chance that OK Corral will get a Denman entry with a view to a Gold Cup supplement?
4 miler Joe surely after DOC riding last time out plus Henderson’s comments after?
January 22, 2019 at 20:50 #1393291WITH GODS WILL
AND GODS GRACE
NEXT UP WE TAKE THE COTSWOLD CHASESuper smart move by the greatest trainer of staying chasers currently alive aka Mr Colin Tizzrd to give his best hope of gold cup glory Elegant Escape a run out here.
Will gain track form a first cheltenham win, a rating of 166plus and single figure odds on gold cup day.
This is merely a training exercise for the Champ in waiting.
January 22, 2019 at 21:17 #1393293Really following the path of Master Oats. Who of course won the welsh national off a big weight then won the pillar property chase at cheltenham new course over 3m 1 1/2f as a fitting warm up.
The Master was relatively unfancied 16/1 shot for the gold cup pre welsh national but received huge public support and was sent off 3/1 fav on the day and duly hacked up wearing black and yellow silks.23 YEARS LATER
WE HAVE ANOTHER ONE BUT EVEN GREATER
HE ALSO WEARS BLACK AND YELLOW
HE IS ONE HELL OF A FELLOWIF YOU EVEN DREAM YOU CAN BEAT THIS HORSE
THEN PREPARE TO LEARN ABOUT THE UNBREAKABLE FORCEGREATEST CHASER OF ALL TIME

January 23, 2019 at 14:56 #1393332What is the likelihood of Kilultagh Vic turning up in this?
He was 790 on the exchanges this morning so took a little of that. Not that I think he can win, but surely if he turns up he’ll be far, far shorter!
Entered in Irish Gold Cup, and only entry at the festival is the Gold Cup.
Any info on whether he’ll turn up is much appreciated.
January 23, 2019 at 15:05 #1393335Running again over hurdles tomorrow. i have no clue what the plans are though.
A horse with no luck in recent years.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 23, 2019 at 15:38 #1393341Competing in the Cotswold Chase is a major negative for the Gold Cup, isn’t it ? However, few will have been contested on decent ground like they’re currently reporting.
Henderson with two entries in a race he doesn’t normally go for
