Great story and well done to the winner and all the connections, but ouch that didn’t
half hurt
Take Cover ran a good race and wasn’t disgraced in 6th, but didn’t quite manage to
squeeze into that extra 4th place on offer.ran the same as last season, just don’t seem to act on the Knavesmere(106 RPR last season), all aboard for france.
Alpha first at the lucky age of 7.
Strangely for that age, Timeform had him as improving last time out, but I did not expect that.
Both Battaash and Blue Point well below form.
Feel for those on Mabbs Cross, unlucky.

Mrsraymo backed Mabs Cross at 16/1 and I had it in three each way doubles and an each way treble Titus 11/1 Emaraaty Ana 10/1 and Mabs 18/1 GUTTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But even though it is an afterthought it was nice to see the emotion from Brian Smart and connections and classy from Michael Dods
In hindsight if you looked at the stats, favourites don’t have a very good record in this race with only 2 going in since 2006

a time at York. I don’t know about buying the cream cakes, I think you could
probably just about buy your own cake factory by now Unlucky with Mabs Cross, just lost it on the nod.
Battaash had been 8/11 for the L’abbeye but was pushed out to 6/4, which will no doubt appeal to some but he’s not for me after that poor effort today and Blue Point is getting too inconsistent for me. I reckon the planets would have to align to see him run the same twice on the trot.

Favourites have a poor record in this race, remind myself to read this thread before next years renewal.
Played the mug punters bet and did the Stradivarius/Battaash double, with a saver on Mabbs Cross…Raymo I feel your pain!

Even wet seaweed hits the back of the net sometimes.
We were crucified by Assatis in 1990 when he won the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot. The Harwood horse had won the race the previous year at 4/11 Fav and people were lumping on him at 50/1 the second time, when Old Vic was odds-on favourite. The money kept coming and I thought I had better have a bit on myself to offset the damage it would do to my bonus at year’s end. Didn’t bother in the end and the whole place erupted as Assatis came home ahead of another 50/1 shot with Old Vic only 3rd.
That remains the biggest turnaround in SP from one year to the next and the same horse winning it.
One man, when asked what he was spending the cash on, stated he was buying a new car. I doubt the Bentley dealership were on alert when he elaborated that his stake had been £1.
He DID buy a car mind you and I think he got change from his £50 profit.
Assatis also ran in an 8 runner Japan Cup and uniquely finished TWELFTH, while Arc winner Carroll House was FOURTEENTH in the same 8 runner field. Amazing stuff.

What a shame there had to be a loser in that one both those horses ran their hearts out and Mabs is a particular favourite of mine I really thought she had got it, so sorry for Mrs Raymo and her accumulator but what great sports you both are Raymo and yes it was lovely to see the emotional reception from connections. Great to see a small yard win a race such as this, well done to them all.
