Great rattling finish from CC, Avilius had a hideous start, got hampered and had no chance unfortunately.
November 6, 2018 at 04:15 #1379849Thought Marmelo had got it but am pleased for Godolphin; they’ve wanted this race for such a long time. Such fun listening to the radio [thanks Big G]. A sample ‘What about a traffic report’ reply of ‘ Bumper to Bumper’; whole studio in hysterics. ‘What’s trending in Wengeranda?’ Missed Peter the Possum Man from Radio Sport, though. Awful about Cliffs of Moher.
November 6, 2018 at 05:56 #1379851Sorry it was Best Solution who blew the start, Avilius hampered by Cliffs of Moher who sadly went wrong…
November 6, 2018 at 07:43 #1379855RIP Cliffs of Moher
November 6, 2018 at 08:50 #1379858Ouch RIP Cliffs of Moher- didn’t realise.
Well done winners- not a race i could bet in. One things for sure, 5-1 about Yucatan was bonkers….

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!November 6, 2018 at 09:15 #1379860Get IN !!! And Youngstar placed too!!
Marmelo has run a fabulous race and POA too!!
Uk one two three can’t be bad
November 6, 2018 at 09:33 #1379862Did Marmelo’s jockey stop riding? I’m not sure that he saw Cross Counter swooping down the outside.
November 6, 2018 at 10:56 #1379866Lovely thing to wake up to on a dull Tuesday morning

Yes, unfortunately for me it was Best Solution that blew the start, his chance all but disappeared
there. He gave the field 5 lengths before he left the stalls and had nowhere to go on the inside
for most of the race. Considering he still managed to finish 8L back in 8th, then although I can’t
say he would have won, he would have finished pretty close IMO. I think Pat Cosgrove was lucky to
get away with it in the Caulfield Cup where he also blew the start, but this was a good way worse.
I don’t think Pat would have slept soundly last night.Well done Raymo and Kev, and anyone else on the winner, that was an incredibly exciting finish for you

I hadn’t noticed that first time I watched it back Moe, but having watched it again I know what
you mean. He maybe thought he had it in the bag until he would have seen Cross Counter coming late.
I think it would be harsh to say he was caught out, and although he didn’t exactly throw the kitchen
sink at him, I don’t think it made any difference to the result. A lot of “what ifs” in this race, but
then it wouldn’t be the Melbourne Cup if there weren’t
I’m glad you enjoyed the radio channel Moe, I had a good laugh at it myself
November 6, 2018 at 17:09 #1379881Well done Kev and other XC backers.
Poor CoM, somehow it seems worse when it happens far from home, like poor Permian, but of course that doesn’t matter to the horse.November 6, 2018 at 17:40 #1379885Cross Counter 25/1 ante-post this year, Rekindling 54/1 ante-post last year. I don’t think I’ll get another winner in this race for as long as I live!
Awful news about Cliffs of Moher.
November 6, 2018 at 17:54 #1379887Great early call Kev and Degaussed, outstanding, well done other winners too.
November 6, 2018 at 17:59 #1379889Sorry I missed you Degaussed, 25/1 is a screamer of a result
November 6, 2018 at 22:02 #1379899When I heard how awful the weather was I thought back to George Washington so hearing that CoM had gone down was a real sickener. Marmelo wouldn’t have beaten Cross Counter but I bet his jockey felt a bit daft. On the plus side, someone on the radio tipped a horse called Teleplay in a later race which I duly backed at 18/1; just checked my account and it won!! Typical isn’t it; spend ages looking at a race and then get an 18/1 winner without even trying. Won all of 68 pence! I keep saying ‘what’s trending in Wengeranga’ and chuckling away to myself. In fact, I think I’ll tune into Australian radio more often.
November 7, 2018 at 01:04 #1379906Marmelo’s jockey got hefty ban for putting up overweight amongst other things….ooooooops.
Wonder if that is why he didn’t ride Finche (who had less weight) as he was originally going to.November 7, 2018 at 12:30 #1379921Cup winning ride.
