I’ve had a few nice each ways in this over the last few years, but the winner remains elusive, recently anyway. I’d like that to change, and no harm in an early look with Coral getting a market up an running.

Absolutely no complaints with Mister Whitaker heading the market, loves it here, looks progressive, and this was always, surely has to be there or thereabouts. I really think he’ll develop into a star in Graded Chases, and quite simply, a worthy favourite.
He won The Close Bros Novices nicely at The Festival, and the runner up that day, Rather Be, is another to take seriously.
The Storyteller is a big fancy of mine for The Ryanair, and he’s one I’d really like to see get an entry. This would seem the perfect target, before finally venturing out of the handicap scene.
I had an early shortlist of four for this last year, and two of them are still on my radar. Foxtail Hill ran very well for a way, before the ground took it’s toll, and if NTD has got to the bottom of whatever was ailing him as the season progressed, then I can see a better showing off of 141. Risky though. The other is Baron Alco. Missed last year through injury, but I was very interested for him this time last year, and if he was on the way back, I’d be interested on his run in The Byrne Group Plate in 2017.
The Rooney pair of Master Dee and Go Conquer could be contenders. It’s debatable if Master Dee would steo back down in trip, but he’s surely ahead of the handicapper on 151, while the mark of 147 for Go Conquer makes him worthy of respect. I like the idea of him for this, but he’ll never be one for me to bet Antepost, I’ve been stung by him enough.
A pleasant surprise to see The Wests Awake get a quote. A very nice horse, and wouldn’t be a household name, but she’s very decent, and 33’s is a nice price.
Too early to have a go, and the whole complexion of this will look different come November, but this is the very early, very tentative shortlist……..
Mister Whitaker
Baron Alco
The Storyteller
Go ConquerI was reluctant to even put up a shortlist, as I have nagging doubt, there’s a couple of obvious ones I’m missing, that I’d be keen on, but with a market formed, thought I’d get the thread up and running.

October 2, 2018 at 18:34 #1376208I hope Go Conquer goes here, was my antepost fancy last year only to skip it. Didn’t have the best of seasons but is handicapped accordingly.
October 4, 2018 at 00:26 #1376303Yeah Joliff, he’s got to be considered. I’ve got him and Foxtail Hill in the same bracket, poor enough seasons, but this could just be the right race to catch them.
October 10, 2018 at 16:39 #1376920Jameson at 25-1, or Ibis Du Rheu at 20-1 would be my early fancies here, but this is one tough race to try and unravel Ante-Post.
October 11, 2018 at 17:33 #1376990My first bet in this is Rather Be 16/1EW. Have also put him in a couple of EW multiples.
Good luck all
October 12, 2018 at 22:27 #1377144Rather Be 16s ew here too.
October 14, 2018 at 02:56 #1377292Baron Alco returns tomorrow at Chepstow.
It’s surely a prep for this, and I’d be a little surprised if they wanted to blow his mark.
Still think he’s an interesting contender for this race, so I’ll be giving him a look.
Another runner at Chepstow who I could see coming into the reckoning for this, is Garde La Victoire.
October 15, 2018 at 11:39 #1377422Baron Alco rather gave the game away yesterday at Chepstow, but he still looks backable, and at least I now know that he’s fit and well.
There was also a lot to like from Double Treasures Run in The Persian War.
I was really interested though with the run from Garde La Victoire, and he’ll surely be an interesting contender for this, and he was quickly added to the shortlist.
October 15, 2018 at 12:26 #1377425Only concern for Rather Be is the ground!
October 15, 2018 at 12:59 #1377427Seems adaptable to ground looking at his race history.
October 15, 2018 at 20:24 #1377481This is one of my very favourite races of the year. The two I like just now are Master Dee and Ballyandy.
October 15, 2018 at 23:05 #1377502NH has always said Rather Be prefers good ground + even Nico said after winning on G/S- the ground was soft enough for him. In saying that he didnt run badly at Cheltenham on it!

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!October 17, 2018 at 01:16 #1377583@Buckers
Can’t believe I didn’t consider Ballyandy, this race would be ideal. I really liked him for The Close Bros, but he obviously didn’t make it after going lame.Hopefully get a clue to his well-being today at Wetherby.
October 17, 2018 at 08:56 #1377589Well placed by the yard today at Wetherby too.
October 17, 2018 at 11:32 #1377618KINGS SOCKS 20/1 for me
October 26, 2018 at 22:02 #1378700I backed Sister Sybil today (2nd to Diakali). Looked like she’d want this trip and I’ll be waiting to see if she gets an entry.
October 27, 2018 at 00:59 #1378739Interesting shout Joe.
Foxtail Hill was a big fancy last year, but I think he blew his chance when he romped home in The Randox Health Handicap.
He faces the same scenario today. I won’t bet him today, as he’s short enough, but I’ll be watching him closely as that 20’s for this race could look very big afterwards.
