Update re Albasheer…
Angus Gold felt a lack of racing experience cost the Burrows-trained Albasheer when he was beaten a length by Chindit in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster. It was only his second start, while the winner had the benefit of two races.
“He ran a very good race. I thought he looked short of experience to me and was beaten by a better horse on the day who’d had a second run,” said Gold.
“Sadly, we’d only got the one run in. It looked like he needed the experience of another run. We were happy with him and the run.”
Albasheer could go for the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket next month, when he could face Chindit again.
“It’s the Dewhurst next, as long as he comes out of it well and goes forward,” he said.

If the ground is good Thunder Moon might turn up. The Hannon pair likely going trainer said. Plus possibly Battleground. Would be a cracker if they all turn up.
September 14, 2020 at 18:34 #1501535I bet Wembley for this a couple of months back, (put up on another thread), along with another who definitely won’t be going, but assumed Wembley wasn’t in the picture when he disappeared from the lists.
I was really happy with him yesterday, so maybe not dead in the water yet, and I took 33’s for Epsom as well.
Wembley 50’s EW
September 15, 2020 at 17:51 #1501632I‘ve bet both Brazil and High Definition for The Derby, but I really like High Definition here as well, so I’ve taken the plunge 25-1 ew.
October 10, 2020 at 15:05 #1505617Cashed out Albasheer. Happy with Thunder Moon on that ground. Came to win but wasnt able to show his usual turn of foot on it.
October 19, 2020 at 21:53 #1506765King Vega 50/1 worth a little before Saturday
October 25, 2020 at 17:17 #1507341ONE RULER 25/1
A Return to Newmarket on better ground think turn the tables and so far no standout 2yo colt this season for me
November 6, 2020 at 20:31 #1509840Quite happy with Battlegrounds run there with the Guineas in mind. Long lay off and looked like the track was a bit tight for him, got trapped wide, not a strong pace, a lot went wrong, so he did well I thought. Straight fast mile at Newmarket with a strong pace looks like it could really suit him
Battleground 10/1
November 6, 2020 at 21:10 #1509861Do Guineas winners run at the breeders cup?
November 6, 2020 at 21:17 #1509863He was going to run in the Dewhurst but the ground was too soft. I don’t think it’s makes any difference, you either decide to run in America or you don’t. I can’t see why that should make any difference to his Guineas chances personally. AVD ran and won the Derby
November 7, 2020 at 09:06 #1509905This is not a normal year. Battleground ran a super race and ran as expected in that he hasn’t raced for a while, takes a while to wind up but finished very strongly. The winner got first run but I’m sure they will be pleased with that run. He looks like he will stay further and with aiden have quite a few for the Guineas and derby they will no doubt be split between the various Guineas. Remember found had a habit of being second until stepped up in trip.St marks basilica would have been the ideal horse for this race. Cest la vie.
March 20, 2021 at 03:20 #1531394Wembley 12/1
St Marks basilica 11/1 (price boost)Watched all of the big 2yo trials on YouTube and to me the dewhurst looked the best one. The form of all the other trials seemed to tie in with this race with the front 3 in it looking the best. Sided with the two Aidan Obrein horses as id be very dubious about thunder moon staying the mile strongly enough to win.
Obviously battleground is the hype horse due to his breeding but I’m not sure how strong his form actually is and there is talk of him going straight to royal ascot.
March 22, 2021 at 22:31 #1531981The National and the Dewhurst are the best juvenile races so it must be a pointer that the first 3 home were the same. I think SMB was a little flattered in the dewhurst with a good draw and TM is a Zoffany whose record of producing 3 year old winners is significantly worse than juvenile winners. So it’s Wembley for me also, albeit tentatively as it could be a shock year this year. So I’ve also taken a punt on Isle of Sark at 66/1
I generally don’t think it’s an antepost market though currently so waiting still for main bets
March 24, 2021 at 21:28 #1532277Looks like battleground, wembley and SMB are all coming straight here
Didnt look like he thinks he has a standout candidate going by the stable tour
Probably not much between the 3
March 26, 2021 at 12:23 #1532454I’d be with battleground as I think he must be well forward as aiden wouldn’t run him otherwise. St marks basilica looks a tough horse that may get further and Wembley looks like he will need possibly 12f so a speedy type may upset the odds. Battleground looks more a declaration of war type. Aiden is amazing at getting them ready but you’ve no idea who the most forward. Maybe it just could be another 1,2,3 for him again. All 3 horses I think will have good seasons.
March 30, 2021 at 04:53 #1533653Does anyone have the dates for the Djebel and Imprudence this year?
March 30, 2021 at 05:01 #1533656Seen they got the boot
April 1, 2021 at 03:32 #1533849Impossible to take a position on this (as per usual) until Listen and the Lads confirm what is going where. Wasn’t particularly impressed with any of his last year, so i’ll probably review the trials and back something, then watch something from Ballydoyle stuff me.
Royal Champion interests me to an extent for Varian / Obaid, and I would love to have a nibble at 33’s, but would like to see him confirmed for the Greenham or Craven before I do.
