    Abolitionist 40/1 Grand National

Assuming Newland doesn’t get him too well handicapped and he misses the cut, I expect this horse will win it. Looked really promising over marathon trips for his previous yard (won Leinster National) and absolutely hacked up over hurdles in November. Had tendon problems last season, which caused him to miss the National, but hopefully he’s over them now.

I’m on at 14’s but think 10’s is still a good price on Monalee to win the Ryanair
possibility he could run in Gold Cup but if he were mine he’d be running at the shorter distance
Looked classy and jumped great in the Lexus but seemed to run out of gas a little at the business end even though he was in a great position throughout the race off a pace that should have suited.

Earlier this week I took some 8/1 for Altior to win the King George. In my opinion the risk is whether he will turn up or not. I cannot see him get beat.

    Epsom Oaks

    Feliciana De Vega
    40/1 WIN

and I think she could win The 1000 Guineas before that but no prices available as yet.

Ralph Beckett trained, she is unbeaten at Newmarket and Deauville, winning both races comfortably.

I saw her run at Newmarket the last meeting in November and she looked amazing so much bigger than the other fillies she went straight into my notebook after winning there. :good:

Its a big chance but I have a feeling that Ralph Beckett has another champion filly in waiting on his hands, his best since Simple Verse..Jac :rose:

Can’t see the slightest reason why you’d want to lay Skitter Scatter as big as 16-1 for the 1000 Guineas, but I’ve got a shrewdie (!) non-racing bet…

With a limited amount of major sporting events in play this year, I feel the annual SPOTY nonsense could get a bit ‘lifetime achievement’-ish again. In which case backing Ronnie O’Sullivan at 25-1 (Bet365) for the bauble could be very similar to backing him at 7-2 for The Crucible. You may as well rip up your ticket if he fails to win the latter, mind.

The Cricket and Rugby World Cups are on the horizon and whilst England could well win the former, the sports’ profile has diminished somewhat and team sports are trickier for producing SPOTY winners anyhow. The same applies for The Ashes against a tarnished Australian team. Johnny Wilkinson won the award in 2003, but England heroics are markedly less likely in Japan and his No 10 equivalent and part-time captain this time round is neither as dominant or as nice!

Tyson Fury will have a sniff if he gets a rematch with Wilder and beats him (both him and O’Sullivan being rather sniffily ignored by the BBC’s shortlisters this year) and Anthony Joshua will obviously be a big favourite if all these proposed fights come to pass and he finishes on top. Dina Asher-Smith would have to go gold at the World Athletics to have a shout (not impossible) and barring a left-field event, only the already-won-it gang of Hamilton & Froome look likely to make headlines.

My bet is that the great British public will finally tire of politicians and consign them all to some massive shipping container at Dover dressed in Dalek suits, crashing into each other in the dark all shouting ‘Let me be absolutely clear’ for all eternity

Man City to win the league at 7/4, keep topping up!

Racing wise, I really like Ozzie the Oscar at 100/1 for the Queen Mother. Somebody has to turn up and nick a place, and I love this animal. Think he steps up into graded company soon, and deserves to take his chance – I’ll take third now!

from 2018 Japan Cup thread on 22 Nov:

“for me, if Almond Eye (evens fav) justifies expectations on Sunday then her current 20/1 to win the 2019 Arc will vaporise. with the level of Japanese support she would attract on the day, that 20/1 in effect is a price for her just to show up at the start. ”

now generally 10/1 but still reasoning same way.
