On the first point, I am inclined to disagree: I don’t think Starmer particularly likes Trump but, as prime minister of a country with a supposed “special relationship” with the US, his hands are tied.
Absolutely agree with you on your second point: the NHS and other sectors would fall apart without immigration. Of course, that is exactly what the RWNJ want, so that the then “failing” NHS, which “does not meet people’s needs” can then be sold off to Reform’s billionaire backers.
The Gorton and Denton result is the clearest indication yet that many traditional Labour voters do not support the party’s shift to the right under Starmer. The leadership has to learn from this, although I fear they are too stubborn/arrogant to do so.
The way to defeat Farage and Reform is to present a clear anti-RWNJ position. Both Plaid Cymru and the Greens have done so in recent by-elections and the results have spoken for themselves.
