“The media are so desperate to get rid of Starmer….”
This isnt about the media and Starmer any more; it’s a damning indictment of the government, or more specifically Labour’s front bench, who are not listening to their core voters or those who are likely, ‘floating voters’.
McSweeney (now gone) allegedly insisted their focus should be on Reform and they ignore the Greens, foolishly.
The huge wake-up call for Labour, even though they won a landslide at the 2024 GE, should’ve been the GE24 result ‘down the road’ from here. In one of the Central Bristol seats Thangam Debbonaire lost a Labour 20k majority (achieved at 2019 GE) to the Greens. The Greens also became the largest party on Bristol Sh#tty Council in last couple of years.
Labour need a policy restructure, not just a change of leader. Which way are they going to lean, leading up to the next GE?
They’re caught in a political pincer attack, Reform to the Right, the Greens to the Left.Edit: Oh, and this thread is getting kinda mixed up with the Starmer one. Maybe the mods can merge them, somehow.
February 27, 2026 at 15:50 #1756536Or people can actually post about Starmer in the appropriate thread. 😉
February 27, 2026 at 16:06 #1756537Agreed. But there are plenty of posts in this thread, and a few in last 24 hours, referencing Starmer, so…
February 27, 2026 at 16:06 #1756538Starmer has two major problems that together suggests he lacks integrity or does not understand the difference between right and wrong.
The first he supports Donald Trump, hated by 90% of the Uk electorate. He invited this arrogant loud mouth to meet our King and because this monster supports Isreal to murder Palestinians (which I read they are still doing) Starmer keeps quiet. He should support Palestinians in Gaza and condemn what Israel are doing. He should condemn the USA for threatening to attack Iran, who aren’t attacking anybody. He should tell Trump to get stuffed and if this means 500% tariffs then so be it. He should show some guts like Mark Carney.
Secondly, he should tell the truth that we need immigrants to support the NHS and care homes. He should reverse the policy of preventing legal immigration and point out that he is trying to stop illegal immigrantion within the limits of International Law. He should take on Farage and stop placating him. Unless he grows a spine he will never win another election.
February 27, 2026 at 16:19 #1756539On the first point, I am inclined to disagree: I don’t think Starmer particularly likes Trump but, as prime minister of a country with a supposed “special relationship” with the US, his hands are tied.
Absolutely agree with you on your second point: the NHS and other sectors would fall apart without immigration. Of course, that is exactly what the RWNJ want, so that the then “failing” NHS, which “does not meet people’s needs” can then be sold off to Reform’s billionaire backers.
The Gorton and Denton result is the clearest indication yet that many traditional Labour voters do not support the party’s shift to the right under Starmer. The leadership has to learn from this, although I fear they are too stubborn/arrogant to do so.
The way to defeat Farage and Reform is to present a clear anti-RWNJ position. Both Plaid Cymru and the Greens have done so in recent by-elections and the results have spoken for themselves.
February 27, 2026 at 17:15 #1756552Gladiateur,.
We have NEVER had a special relationship with the USA; that we had is mere propaganda. They only came into WW2 when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbour. The second hand equipment they lent us (lease and lend) we were paying off until only a few years ago. They always ask us to help them in the wars they start (Afghanistan, iraq and Vietnam). Luckily in the latter case we had a courageous Prime Minister who refused. They never help us when we need it (Suez crisis, they were actively against us and the Falkland Islands where they were nearly against us, but were neutral in the end. We never get any preferential treatnent and get tariffs like every other country.
We are like Canada were, totally controlled by the USA, until Mark Carney came along. I wish he were our Prime Minister
February 27, 2026 at 17:21 #1756556Sticking to Reform, and this may be wishful thinking, but are they reaching a ceiling? OK this was a fairly left-leaning seat but almost all of the right wing vote went to them, and you can be sure their supporters did not stay at home.
My hope is that people finally start seeing them for what many of us have been correctly saying they are but I won’t hold my breath with our media the way it is.
Now more MPs in Parliament elected as Greens than elected as Reform by the way.
February 27, 2026 at 17:43 #1756558It won’t happen while they’re still the darling of the media. Poor Kuenssberg must be so disappointed that she won’t be interviewing a new Reform MP on Sunday. I can’t face watching the news today but I bet it’s full of Farage ( whenever I hit upon a news channel whilst channel hopping one of them is on…)

Been at home all day. Actually, it hasnt been at all. It’s been more about Greens and Labour/Starmer.
February 27, 2026 at 19:48 #1756573Hee hee. Two bonfires pissed on

Farage taking a leaf out of his mate’s book saying the election was rigged.
February 27, 2026 at 20:03 #1756580Sick of Labour MPs that gained their seats at the last election thanks to Keir getting their fifteen minutes of fame by going on the news and slagging him off. Do they not realise that they will be bombarded by emails from moi…
February 27, 2026 at 20:56 #1756586No thanks to Keir. Thanks to the 14 years of Tory mismanagement.
February 27, 2026 at 22:09 #1756593But we had several years of austerity etc and people still voted Conservative didn’t they?
February 28, 2026 at 01:02 #1756617That’s because the vast majority of people are idiots.
February 28, 2026 at 06:43 #1756622I’d proffer that the bigotry present in (some) Indians – or (some) South Asians more generally – is more likely to be of a religious nature than based on skin colour.
There is also the influence of the caste system in India, which I believe was officially banned on independence but the effects of which still linger on into the present day:
February 28, 2026 at 07:25 #1756623Unfortunately, people not liking each other very much is part of the human condition, no matter what anyone may like to think.
A wise and brilliant man we lost last year at the age of 97 satirised it in one of his best songs. Although just as much the target of his satire was the people who like to think they are above that sort of thing.
Mr Tom Lehrer and “National Brotherhood Week”, with “When You Are Old And Grey” as a bonus.
March 1, 2026 at 07:34 #1756794Has there ever been a bigger bunch of bull****ting crybabies in UK political history?
How anyone takes these cretins seriously is beyond me.
