Hi
I’ve been a member for many years but not posted anything for ages.
I’ve read your posts and your system is like the one I run.As you I find time is the stumblinh block to posting selections.On another site that I’m a member of, I used to post selections everyday.Also with a lack of interest but it was throwing up a lot winners and good each way bets.
It would be good if we could chat off the forum on our systems.
Regards.

Hi Everyone
Very interesting thread.
I did touch on this subject ages ago.I used lots of the software that was mentioned.Still have a few of them around the house.
Did have a go with Pro-Punter a few months back as others have said it’s all done to time. i.e. all that data.
I have some of the first tapes of Birmadon too.As I have no old Amstrad computer can’t use them.
I dug out some interesting software,that will let you create your own systems but it’s a dos program but still works on windows.If only I know how to use it!
I’ve seen someone selling what others on the thread thats been mentioned, FormMaster on ebay.I did buy a little program called Formster, which is based around vdw.
Anyway sorry about rambling on about old software.
Happy Punting.

Hi Everyone
Not been on here for awhile now.
Anyway, I’ve been reading FineForm again and found something of interest on pages 53 & 54.
There is three systems mentioned on these pages.The first one is called Supreme Time System,that is based on raceform standard times.Second one is Swiftwin Sources for Busy Bettors,this one is based on topspeed.The last but not leaset is Special Junior System this has something to do with market pointers.
I’ve searched for these systems in the last week or so,with no luck.
Has anyone any idea how these systems work or even a copy of them?
Happy Punting.

Hi Carlisle
What is a VDW spreadsheet,not come across one of those?Any chance of you letting me have one?
Regards.
Kevin
Hi Everyone
Carlisle:- Just looked at your image,looks a bit complex with all the colours.I’m not sure how you loaded it to your link.
I go along with VDW class & ability rating.
I will send you a copy of one of my workings that I use to work it out.It will be later in the week.The three day meeting at Perth will be great for VDW way.As the class an value of the races higher.
What you trying to program? is it your way of working out the VDW method?
Regards.

I’ve being toying with the idea of starting to use VDW again.
Been looking at different systems an methods but always come back to thinking that the good old Dutchman’s ideas are the way to go.
I have tried software that seems to have it’s base set on VDW workings.
The only thing that puts me off is having the time,as I work nights an so time is in short supply.
I brought a DOS based software program that helps you to form your own systems. Not being to technically minded on how to work it out.The program is called FormFinder by First Post Racing only wish I knew how to use it.
The ratings I used with VDW are a speed rating an Handicap one.As for form rating. I found a great little table in an old systems (1950’s)book that was a system in it’s own right.The list is very long but here is a snippet.
111 = 120
112 = 116
113 = 104
221 = 112
231 = 98
241 = 76
312 = 96
313 = 72
314 = 46
412 = 60
413 = 52
414 = 24
At the end of the day it’s all down to how you feel using a method or system that feels right for you.Plus of course it will give you enough winners that put you in profit.
Look forward to any thoughts you guys have.
Regards.

Hello Everyone
I’ve not been around for awhile,no not been on Holidays or lodging at her Majesties pleasure!
To coming back to this thread, the biasing was the thing I could not work out.Well I tinkerd about with various combinations.
The elements are :-
Last two runs & no. of days.
Course and Distance.
Trainers.
Jockeys.
Form Ratings
Starting Prices.
What I’d like to know is what’s the general thoughts of you guys.Which of the elements do you think are of more importance?
Look forward to any replies an ideas you have.
Kind regards.
Kevin
Hi Artemis
Seems like no one can help me,so far!!
Anyway here a few of the inputs you have to put in.
First update top Trainers & Jockeys i.e. wins per runs.
They are in – 2yo – 3yo – 3yo plus – Hurdle – Chase.
Which is easy to do once a week via Weekender.
Next is Race info.
Name of Racecourse –
Time -
Date -
Number of runners -
Details of Race – ?????? could be prizemoney?
Type of Race – 2yo – 3yo – 3yo plus- Hurdle – Chase.
And for horse inputs.
Horse number -
Last two runs -
Numer of days since last run – 1-7, 8-14, 15-21,22-28,29-60 & 61+others
Previous winning form – none – Course Winner – Distance Winner – Course & Distance Winner-
Trainer -
Jockey -
Form Rating – ( I use RPR out of Racing Post) -
Starting prices.
Then when data is inputed, go to View Prediction. Which will then give you it’s rating an it’s price for the horse.

There is also top tips, adjusting of baising, enter esults,edit runners,non runner and favs finished postion.
Well thats about all I can tell you.The only things that I’m not sure about are Details of race and Form rating. Which I’m sure is up to you, what rating you want to use.
You could always tinker about with the adjust biasing too.
I do find it quick to use, faster than a lot of racing software that I’ve used.Plus you can slip it into your pocket.
Well hope that helps you to understand it a bit more,Artemis. Look forward to any feedback from you.
Regards.

Hi Guys
Well what a s**t
week for Royal Ascot, not one winner.
Never used any programs at this meeting. Just used stats and couple of tip lines M**T*N J***AN and Ni*K Mo**n. Got my head in a spin an picked the wrong selections.
Anyone used a program called Classform Calculas?Happy punting
Kevin
Hi Everyone
Cheers for that John. I have an old copy of Boxform, so if you can do as you say. I will get a copy an try that out.
Cheers

Hi Guys
Ah! Cheltenham.
Yes I’ll be doing the same in the next couple of weeks. I’ll have loads of stuff papers, ratings and pile of paper, all on the kitchen table. Hopefully I’ll have worked them all out by Monday the week of Cheltenham. Luckly going for the three days.
Always seem to talk myself of the ones I think are certs. Think it’s to do with looking for holes in the form. Which I think is one of the most important factors at the meeting.
Cheers

Hi Everyone
Yes I’ve used FineFourm as well. A lot of systems use a numerical basis, an can point you in the right direction to finding winners.
I use a method that is based around the VDW method. Oh no I hear you all cry, not him again. Well it works for me.
The Adrian Massey ratings are just one of the ratings I use. I used to use Nick Mordin speed figures, when they were available in a monthly mag ( the name I forget, old age).
As someone said before" you can’t stop getting losing runs" that is just something no system/ method will ever stop.
Kind regards.

Hi Guys
I’ve looked at lots of computer systems over the years. Started off with Brimadon, in the days of the tapes. Was a good system, but way to costly nowadays.
Have had Pro Punter (still have a copy on my harddrive but not a working one) Thought too was a good tool to use. Also used other computer basied programs.
Found that it takes so long to enter all the data. I give up. Think that it’s having the time that is the biggest problem for most people.
I use paper systems now because you get a better feel for a race. When your sifting throught all the the data that is out there.
I suppose like most of you, I’ve brought a few methods/systems over the years an used the them for awhile, then put them in the back of a drawer. Leaving them to gather dust.
I do think it’s all down to how one feels. Some methods/systems you love to work with an others you don’t feel right for you.
Would like to hear what you guys think?
Kind regards.
Kevin
