Touche!, Salut A Toi. That’s the essence of my post. However, Gingertipster doesn’t understand this adage because he can’t see the forrest for the trees!
Gingertipster, take your maths, the numbers, and your attitude to Vegas. They will love you! They will absolutely adore you! Oh, and don’t forget to bring your cash!
Good post ERL. Your stats are the kind of numbers that caught the attention of the FBI in the US. Certain trainers were winning at a strike rate over a period of time that defied the odds. Depends on what you read or to who you listen, some very influential trainers, who play by the rules, started to complain privately, and some publicly, and of course one thing led to another and eventually many arrests were made and confessions extracted from the guilty. But, it’s not over yet. However, things are changing slowly for the better and I remain hopeful that the care and attention of these beautiful equine athletes will become the number one priority bar-none and cheaters punished accordingly.
Now, with regards to this issue at hand, we have here many intelligent and articulate posts but they are stating and restating the problem. What is the solution? How many here have taken concrete action by writing to their respective member of the Parliament? Writing to influential newspapers? Writing to the BHRA? If you were the head of BHRA or a member of Parliament what steps would you take to eradicate this problem? BTW, I’m most guilty of not doing my share also..
Investor, there’s an old adage in horse racing: “You can beat a race, but you can’t beat the races.” If anyone ever tells you otherwise, they’re lying to your face…

I loved Ferdinand, and your horse Shahrastani beat Dancing Brave, whom I also admired, in the Derby. Was pulling for him in the BC Turf, but it wasn’t to be. I think the California heat got the best of him…
Ahhh, poor Louise12. Nobody responded to the post, and you think that’s telling? Here’s something really telling: Louise12 was very quick to provide no less than 7 links (yes that’s correct 7 links!) on page 7 in the post “Doping in horse racing” and quickly point fingers across the pond under the pretext of keeping people here informed. But where is Louise12 with this story and the relevant links?
Jackh, the main reason the media is not following this story and keeping the public informed because it’s much easier to shift attention and report what’s going on in America because obviously Britain doesn’t have such a problem. It’s only in Ireland in America. Misinformation is a powerful tool to control public opinion…

Was reading an interesting historical book on horse racing the other day and came across this little twister (among many):
Who was the first stallion to sire the winners of the Epson Derby and the Kentucky Derby in the same year?
Couldn’t agree more with that statement, LD. For example, look at Bullet Train and Frankel, even the “great” one needed one.
On RacingTV’s website under “Racecard” – Irish Champion Stakes, Timeform (VERDICT) makes the following commentary:
“Just the 4 runners but a belting renewal. ST MARK’S BASILICA coped very well with a small-field scenario when an impressive winner of the Eclipse and can land a fifth Group 1 success in a row. The Arc is presumably the main target for Tarnawa so it could be that the chief threat comes from leading miler Poetic Flare, whose pedigree provides plenty of hope that he’ll be just as good over this trip.”
Please read, and re-read the above, TTC and learn what proper critical thinking is as it will prevent you from thinking with blinkers on!
I did not use the word “trial”, but instead my explicit reference is to “prep” as in preparatory race for Taranawa just like it is alluded to by Timeform. The implication is as follows: the connections will not go out and maximally exert the horse just to win this race, notwithstanding its great reputation, when the bigger picture is the Arc. At the beginning of the year the connections made this known. They didn’t come out and say our primary target in 2021 is to win the Irish Champion Stakes, or any one else did for the matter (perhaps the likes of Patrick Sarsfield, because they have no hope anywhere else).
If Taranawa wins this race, great a big feather in their cap: broodmare value skyrockets, but if she doesn’t win then it’s not big setback losing a big race like this one. The bottom line is this: she needs a race and so it’s better here, strategically, then traveling to France to run in one of the Arc’s “trial” race.
BTW, to the outside world, Ireland’s biggest and most known race is the Irish Derby, not the Champions.
Good strategy FF. In my view, the connections will not be “all out” to win this race. The Arc has always been their overall goal for her this year. While this race is very prestigious, and she certainly has the class to win it, it’s nothing more than a stiff 10F “prep” for the Arc. Notice they didn’t go in any of the “usual” Arc prep races? I wonder why?
