I know how you feel Moehat. These old horses stir so many memories, many totally unrelated to racing. Sounds like he had a lovely retirement though.

Doubt it. He’s pulled up in all of his races since his Chepstow victory (apart from when he plodded round in the Grand National without showing any enthusiasm for the course). I imagine they’ll retire him. Hope so anyway.

Agree. Seemed to be enjoying himself initially but started to struggle at the point where you’d think his stamina and love of desperate ground would give him an advantage.

It depends on the owner. There are many people who have taken on ex-racehorses (some of whom were so useless they never even raced) who love them and pay for their treatment when they get sick or injured, even if they can never be ridden again. I think the main danger for racehorses is between retirement and final adoption. Often many new owners and dealers are involved in this process and not all necessarily have the horse’s best interest at heart.

First race that came to my mind too LD73. Mainly because of Eddery’s contemptuous glance.

Agree Kenh. Not the first clumsy comment from Plunkett. Worst ITV presenter line-up for today’s wretched events (and, like Moehat, I have a generally positive view of their overall coverage).

They will though. I hate this sort of thing. Fingers crossed he finishes sound and enjoys the retirement he deserves.

“Or perhaps the behaviour shown towards Dunne by Frost is the reason she was ostracised by both male and female jockeys during and after it and why she finds herself cut adrift in France after seemingly losing any support from her previous boss”.

If she’d chosen to escalate Dunne’s conduct beyond the incestuous world of horse-racing, he could well have found himself with a criminal record and be on the sex offenders’ register. I daresay he’d still be defended by some on this forum and supported by most of the same trainers.

Moehat is a valued member of this forum and I hope that Dunne and his supporters aren’t responsible for driving another talented female away. “Patriarchal misogyny” sadly remains an issue in racing but I hope it will be purged from this forum.

McCoy and Mayor, plus Bartlett commentating. Thought I’d died and gone to hell. At least Mick Fitz gave it a break this week.

Isn’t this a very similar business model that greyhound racing tried 20+ odd years ago? Who in the BHA looks at the way that turned out and thinks “yep, that’s the way to save horse-racing”?

They breed their own horses but also spend millions at the sales. Always strikes me as odd. Juddmonte & Shadwell also buy at the sales but seem to have most success with home breds. Anyone got stats on Coolmore home breds v purchases?

He really is, and proved it beyond any doubt this weekend. Ethical Diamond is a grand horse but there’s no way a horse with his profile would have even been considered for the Breeders Cup if he’d been trained by anyone else, let alone romp away with one of the top races in record time. AOB is a great trainer but his record is boosted by the lack of competition in group races in Ireland and in staying flat races generally. Quite a few of his high profile (and expensive) horses underperform whereas Mullins always seems place his horses perfectly to get the best out of even the least promising.
