Posse was drawn fairly far out — maybe 12 or 13 and raced towards the far side until he was hampered when Nureyev came up on his left. Then he switches, behind most of the field, towards the stand side when he makes his big run. Watching it over and over again I have to think it did cost him the race.
No, the incident is at 1.17 or 1.18 and is just before the camera switches over. Posse is in deep red colors and is on the very right of the picture. Hard to see but is there.
If you look at the video at 1 min 18 seconds you can just see where Nureyev pulled out and Eddery on Posse took up. Not very clear though.
My late father was the Stipendary Steward there that day. He maintained that it was a fairly clear cut decision.
From this video one can see little, I do remember the head on looked very bad.
Funny enough, I backed Known Fact.
Great video. Except it was a total sham. Story is that Coolmore knew that Sheikh Mohammed wanted the horse so to have some fun at Sheikh Mohammed’s expense they bought him privately before the sale for about $4 million (knowing they could outbid Mohammed at any price). However, Ferguson (bidding for Mohammed) found out and kept bidding way over what his limit was knowing that Coolmore would have to keep going no matter what. This left Coolmore with some huge commissions to pay to the sale company.
my ratings before Tartan bearer nr

141 tartan bearer nr
139 mastercraftsman
132 set sail
132 georgebernardshaw
had backed sea the stars at 1/2 before tartan withdrawalJust interested, not trying to be smart…but I find it difficult to see how you can have had STS 10 points ahead of MCM but yet MCM only 7 ahead of Set Sail and Georgebernardshaw ??
Does Dettori like Shaweel so much that he stays to ride him rather that going to ride Desert Party or Regal Ransom in the Kentucky Derby ? Or was he not given the choice ?
I believe some of the great jockeys of the ’60s were drunk a frightening amount of the time, judged on what I’ve read in several autobiographies..
Yes, I’ve heard several such stories. They all seem to involve Terry Biddlecombe in some way, shape of form.
I trump your Terry Biddlecombe with my Johnnie Haine.
I double trump your Johnnie Haine with my Barry Brogan

The mention of Blagrave’s name brings back memories.
I grew up in the early 70s about a mile away from Blagrave’s house in Linkenholt, Hampshire and remember meeting him on several occasions. He was somewhat intimidating to a ten-year-old !
I think he owned much of the village and he hosted a charity cricket match each summer at which I remember one year seeing soccer players Peter Osgood and Mick Channon as well as jockeys Jimmy Lindley and, I think, Brian Taylor.
As I recall Rymer was his best but I remember Red Brigand as one of his favorites.
