I’d rather have the cross country any day – but only because I can’t stand the AW.
Horses for courses, and all that ……
That’s the trouble with men ……
Are Dean Gallagher’s with or without cocaine …..?
Seriously, Marko, these figures are really interesting. Thanks for taking the time to do them.
Wow! That was quick!
Many thanks to Luke for taking the time.
After all the recent discussions and controversy over A-levels, and so on, God Help Me Pass made me chuckle the other day.
Unfortunately, the request for divine intervention didn’t get it past Halfaquid and Pharviva …
Venusian, it’s really great to read an opinion from someone who has seen the best over such a long period – I never saw Fred Winter ride (too young) but I remember that he was still the benchmark when John Francome, for example, was riding.
I agree – I think AP is better than Scu was. ÂÂÂ
We seem to be in an era now when each successive "generation" of NH jockeys pushes the boundaries of determination and commitment further.  It’s hard to see how anyone can take it further than AP – but who knows?
Rory – I don’t think it’s necessarily fair to describe Ruby Walsh and Paul Carberry as "comparatively indolent" given that there is much less racing in Ireland for them to take advantage of.  They still rush round the country, often to meetings where there are only one or two NH races on the card and often to ride nags that appear to have a cat’s chance in hell of getting a sniff of the winner’s enclosure. ÂÂÂ
I think McCoy is the best out there at the moment but there’s no doubt that he racks up the winners so quickly partly because he rides for Pipe.
The greatest ever? How can we really make comparisons? How can we compare him, for example, with Fred Winter?
IMHO, at present the three next best after McCoy are all in Ireland – Ruby Walsh, Paul Carberry and Barry Geraghty (in no particular order)
The Racing Channel presenters had fun with Heart Midoltian today – first it was Heart Midlothian and then it was Heart Miltoadian. It quite brought back memories of poor old Samuel Wilderspin in the National ..
I read somewhere that an owner wanted to call their horse Heezaputz and it was turned down – did it become Heezapistol instead ….?
Going back to the subject of the Jockey Club, I know absolutely zero about how racing is policed in other countries.  Do any of them do it better?  Is there anything that can be learnt from elsewhere? ÂÂÂ
