Sorry that should read ‘I’m NOT doubting it happens’ apologies
That may be so, but does it ever. I mean Standing Obligation was returned at 1.30 to place. Thats good value imo for a horse who returned at 4/6.
I’m doubting it happens, but in real terms how many odds on (or indeed odds against) shots actually return at less than 1.10?
Thank you for that. However 1.02, or indeed anything less that 1.10 must be a pretty rare occurance.
Today alone. Standing Obligation (sp 4/6) 1.10
European Dream (sp 5/6) 1.10
Key Time (2nd 8/15) 1.10
Three today alone, does anyone recall a recent result where the place below 1.10?
In response to your question. Naturally no one can 100% predict a horse’s sp. However it is sometimes possible to identify quite quickly which horses are likely to drift or (esp) are going to shorten for whatever reason.
Rather than predicting an sp, close attention to the markets can often be valuable in identifying a ‘false’ priced favourite, particularly in novice hurdles or bumpers. For Example you will often find a McCoy/Jonjo/JP McManus horse say, sent off a 7/4 favourite when in a competetive race it should be around 4/1 or whatever. It is in these such races you should aim to find a good each way alternative to include in your system.
Does anybody have a recording of this years race? I cannot find one anywhere – perhaps there is somewhere online where you can see a re-run?
I added a thread about him in the Other’s forum – sad sad news though.
As soon as I read the title of the thread – before i had opened it – i immediatly thought Motivator. Was waiting to see if anyone had the balls to mention him ;) Seriously though he was a very impressive derby winner ‘the best for years’ – and was still relatively unexposed after his win but just never fired with the spark he showed at Epsom and retired having never won another race. This, in my view makes him dissapointing. A shame really.
Thanks for that… useful information given when toys are put back in the pram.. – insert smiley of your choice – serously thought thanks for opinions!
What is the Statistical Review and Ledger could someone please explain what each of these are and if they are worth getting?
Thanks for that Grasshopper, i suppose i was just looking for what sets it apart from the other form books on the market because i’m not a serious punter really but do enjoy the sport from a non-betting perspective as well, so it would be good to have a permanant record of how the season unfolded<br>
Thanks for that, why is it so expensive then? Sounds quite pricey for what it is.
Despit humming and harring about whether or not to order this years edition, i thought i would pick your brains again to find out what you actually get for your money. Compared to Chaseform for example, C and H is very expensive. Does Chasers and Hurdlers provide the same sort of form analysis or is it simply a list of horses with an write up about them (thus similar to Racehorse Record although far more in depth)
Essentially, do you get a full list of Uk racing results from last season or is it formatted differently?
Any other explanation about what is in the book would be greatly appreciated.
Does Odd’s on still get printed? or does it not exist anymore?
I am also from Scotland and feel that the start of the new season has set the tone for the most competative spl of recent times… granted the quality is perhaps not what it was ten or even five years ago but the entertainment value hasn’t dwindled imo
Thanks for the opinions regarding Chasers and Hurdlers, i think i shall take the plunge and get a copy. does the statistical record still accompany it? if so, what imformation does this contain? In response to the views of goode and thompson, the former’s channel four commentaries of the late eighties and early nineties were what got be hooked racing and consequently i have a certain nostalgic fondness for him, despite recognising he is sometimes off the ball recently (didn’t catch the ripon commentary but recall a 5 runner race at musselburgh a few months back where he called the wrong winner past the post!) As far as ‘ho ho ho – that’s one for the judge tommo’ he does do his bit as a presenter, but i much prefer richard hoiles and some of the other more informitive and serious commentators but tommo does have his place, on channel four perhaps more so than in the commentary box.
