southwell hasn’t been proved it doesn’t work any more than worcester has proved turf tracks don’t work
If thats the case why is Southwell been closed for the last month and will stay closed until november all weather doesnt mean all weather snow fog rain and strong winds can stop all weather racing
According to the managing director on ATR yesterday everything happens in front of the stands, the parade ring is next to the stands. The stables have been moved onto the main site so the horses dont have to cross Bawtry Road and stop the traffic. There will eventually be a hotel and leisure apartments.
Lets hope that this is a turning point for Arena Leisure and not another one of there disasters that has dogged them this summer.
This has been mentioned before in the Setanta/Racing UK thread
I did put John Hun and Lee McKenzie id originally but the system limits the number of choices you can have.
Unfortunately if the weather continues to be excessively wet in years to come more courses will try for AW to avoid the losses of cancelling fixtures this was Sedgefield’s reason for considering an AW track. But as Southwell proves it don’t always work
I was reeading teletext letters today and see the anti Doncaster brigade are out again moaning about the St Leger being group 1, the same people who moan about the Lincoln being a dull start to the season, despite it being one of C4 racing biggest audience ratings and most bet on races (Jim Mcgrath C4). I hope the new track and facilities will prove them wrong. The St leger is only as good as the horses who take part its up to the trainers to get some decent horses and enter them.
sorry if this poll has already been done but its too late now.Anyway lets see if trhe opinions has changed with the comments of last week. I agree about GG his voice is so monotone no emotion mind you I find Simon holts voice very dull as well, I think the best new voice is Alan Howes a voice of the future
what are the plans for Musselburgh now will they upgrade or just stay as they are? What reasons were given for rejecting it?
didnt actually show the incident just the race sorry

Watch the end of the ATR replay of the 2.25 at Downpatrick. The start of the Wolverhampton race, and the incident, can be seen just after the Downpatrick finish.

Heres the incident

Forward to 5m 30 secs and watch them load the favourite it is clear to me its the stall handlers who pushed the horse in with so much force. They forced the horse to hit the front of the stalls appaulling from the stall handlers.
arent there specific rules if a horse plays up I thought a vet had to check all horses imvolved.
Interestingly in the ATR online replay just as Matt Chapman questions after the race them letting the horses go he gets cut off. (not a bad thing to do to Chapman granted) but i hope they didnt do it deliberately he was asking what was being said on here
didnt actually show the incident just the race sorry

With 1 week to go you’d think that all Doncaster Racecourse had on its mind would be getting things ready but no, silly season is here in the local paper today it is reported that a row has erupted over the name of the new stand.
A company called Urban-i are sponsoring one stand and as a result Urban-i is the new name of this stand but a conservative councillor has got her knickers in a twist claiming it should be called St Leger Stand
What does it matter? what matters is that they get the racing back on and everything goes smoothly, the company have said that the racecourse will still be called doncaster racecourse and are investing money and getting the racecourse exposure. Lets hope no more nonsense and quality racing gets priority.
Mr Smith called the wrong horse from start to finish in the 7 O’Clock at Windsor he called the horse Pretty Miss instead of One Way Ticket.
After numerous e-mails to ATR booth Alex Hammond (now Alex Quinn) said "Dave Smith’s done a stirling job tonight" to which Mr Smith replied "Don’t think some emailers think so what they dont realise is that the sunshine blocks the view down the straight and its difficult to see which horse is which".
So we now know that it is the sunshine which is to blame not Mr Smith’s incompetence, So don’t slag Mr Smith off when quite clearly it is the sunshine lets start a blame the sunshine thread.

Certainly is I remember reading some stats on money but cant find it now it showed Hexham and Kelso at the bottom. I was wondering because people say Racing UK has the best courses what do people mean when they say best courses is it top horses peforming, group 1 races, actual race course facilites etc
been talked about since 2003 whether it will happen who knows.
This is from the Guardian 21 July 2007.
A new all-weather track at Sedgefield is said to be back on the agenda for the County Durham course. Sedgefield were set to introduce all-weather racing at the course a couple of years ago, but shelved the idea after discovering the degree of uncertainty over fixtures from the British Horseracing Board.
http://sport.guardian.co.uk/horseracing … 95,00.htmlMine wasnt a cock up more a bit of bad luck had a nice double planned and as I bet through my interactive TV just as I was about to bet the Telewest man came to look at the box and both horses came in and i would have won £400 for a £2 double, my first ever try at a double.
