Just read that Great Heavens is an unlikely runner, being aimed at the Prix Vermielle on Sunday instead. Whether that is tied in with the current going at Doncaster I don’t know. There was a nagging doubt in my mind about her taking her place, partly due to the ground dependency and partly because of the stable depth in the race, so I didn’t place a bet on her, this was amplified when I saw 14/1 available this week. Maybe she will pitch up in the Arc if it is soft enough. Thought Worthy and Michelangelo are said to be the likely two from Gosden’s yard, with a pacemaker, presumably to draw the kick out of Camelot.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Nope but if I was I doubt they’d be bothering you, you simply aren’t very funny.

Btw your perception of irony seem to be blighted by selective memory, I gave 3 options, ignore, reply or rubbish.

Oh cheer up you old humbug! Admit you misread the OP and laugh it off! You make Ugly Mare seem positively cheerful!

Well you see I don’t think I really did. :)

Well indeed. Considering it was my post, I think I am in a position to tell if you took out of it what I intended it to be. Strangely enough, nobody else read it the way you did.

Regarding me not being funny, that is your prerogative. Other people got some amusement, that outweighs your opinion.

I am not going to get embroiled in personal battles on this forum. I have been there and done that already on other forums and it is destructive and gets away from the topic in hand.

Frankel is not running in the Arc, end of. At the start of the season we did not expect him to run in the race and he was on offer at 25/1 to reflect that. I could see the point if he had had the Arc as a target all along and then they had chickened out at the last moment. Similarly if they had done a Jim (Hokey Cokey) Bolger and had him in-out-in-out-shaking it all about before lifting the race. This thread was a light-hearted take reflecting a scenario where the public seem to know what is best for a horse. When you brush aside the reams of verse written about Frankel, the headline on the front of the Racing Post would read:-

"Public Outcry as Horse Not Running In Race We Didn’t Expect it to Run In"

You have made your feelings known and the matter is closed as far as I am concerned. Life is too short for petty squabbles.

Must have a chance. But I would not back anything to beat Camelot until this race is run.

Might be a tad difficult to get a bet on as late as that andy ;)

It’s shocking how much they charge a minute on Babestation….:D

Grim indeed. No thought whatsoever for the guy who only requires 20 seconds worth ;)

Just to keep on topic, has anyone noticed what an excellent horse Frankel is?

And I thought armchair jockey was the someone who got excited while watching the race at home and imitated the actions of the jockey riding, trying to will the horse to win.

Could well be, although I pity the person trying to ride a finish on my Auntie Jean’s 1970’s plastic couch. There would have been enough static generated to set the thing on fire!!

…you missed out Twitter, although I realise you may find this a challenge…

some well known faces on there in the racing world… sound none too pleased with the Arc bypass….

    take a look – it’s the modern way, even I’ve got 3,145,876 followers…

That is probably more than are following Jesus in modern day Britain. I actually have no interest in what people think about Frankel missing the Arc. I have accepted, though some people seem unable to, that Frankel would follow the path chosen, and made clear to us months ago, by the owner and trainer. Perhaps these well known faces you mention have egos big enough to think that connections are going to read their tweets and be influenced by them. I personally would consider that Henry Cecil would welcome my input on the matter about as much as a jobbie in a jacuzzi. Each to their own.

So who do you think going to win these two big races on saturday. I’m thinking ortensia and nathaniel in a double but maybe bated breath comes into the reckoning if it’s fast ground!

Bated Breath’s course form is very encouraging. He has 3 wins from 4 runs and the time he didn’t win he was beaten a nostril by Dream Ahead in this race last year. I think he needs some firm in the going description to be seen at his best. Ortensia was reported to have had a hard race at York and took a day or two to look better physically but the trainer reports that she has a great constitution. William Buick might not be available to ride as he is expected to partner Nathaniel and would need to get on a plane at some point. Bearing in mind that she has looked better under Buick the last twice, although it may just be coincidence, it may be a negative. Also, she has not run at Haydock before.

At 11/4 Ortensia and 5/1 Bated Breath, I would prefer an each-way on the latter at a course where he has strong form, ground dependent of course.

Nathaniel looks to have Snow Fairy to beat. I think he will do so and my lay in the race at 9/2 would be Imperial Monarch as I think he has a lot to do simply by dint of being three years old and a colt not with the name Camelot. Not that I would fancy the latter in this race either.

This thread sounds more like a case of not liking some people’s opinions but instead of just ignoring them, replying to them or if you really feel like it rubbishing them this is some sort of condescending critique of a new breed of "racing chavs" who must not be allowed to dare it seems to question something like where Frankel should run next.

This is a racing forum not a trainers or a jockeys appreciation society.

Are you working with the Laughter Police by any chance Brigadier?

This is just a bit of fun. If I touched a nerve then it is something people need to grow a thicker skin about. I never aimed at anyone in person and it is a fact that offence is TAKEN, rather than GIVEN in life. Delicious irony that you suggest I should ignore but you couldn’t manage to do it yourself.

I have a rule on any forum regarding what I post and it is this:-

"If you can put a smile on ONE face, it was worth doing"

Now you should get busy, because I think a couple of people are enjoying a wee giggle on another thread and we can’t have that can we?

It seems Hawkeye’s only won the one race this year, so that’s encouraging.

He has only had five runs this year, you can discount the runs on soft and heavy ground as his form is best on good/good-firm. Also one of the races was a group 1 and another was over seven furlongs where he has won only once. He has had his optimum conditions of six furlongs and good ground only twice this year. He ran a cracker 3rd of 28 to Dandy Boy in The Wokingham and was 1st of 27 runners in the Stewards Cup. That is mighty compelling form if he were to get good/firm ground on the day at Ayr and a decent draw. The one downer is that his two previous runs in the race were moderate, one can be ruled out due to the soft ground but the other was really his only poor run in a big field over 6f when he has had his ground. He has won at Ayr over 5f though, so you couldn’t really say it is the course itself that he didn’t like.

Duke of Firenze is well bred and lightly raced, he could be open to plenty improvement but hasn’t raced in a field bigger than 13 runners and I would want a more experienced and battle hardened mount for a race that will be hustle bustle all the way.

On Oddschecker I see the two horses are joint favs at 14/1 at the moment. I know which one I would rather have!!

Grim news. John Francome reckoned she was going to be alright but it’s hardly the first time his mouth has opened and his belly rumbling has replaced any semblance of sense. I had a fun bet on her and Ghurair for the two Guineas races next spring but that is nothing and I wish we had had the chance to see her fulfill her promise. She could literally have been anything and it’s a cruel reminder of the darker side to the sport we love.

I backed Hawkeyethenoo in the Stewards Cup although the stable was pretty quiet at the time. He is entered in the Sprint Cup at Haydock, which is probably stretching his ability. Hawkeyethenoo boasts a good strike rate for the type of animal he is, but the factor that made me back him at Goodwood was the fact that he runs really well in big fields. I will back him for the Ayr Gold Cup and hope he can come through off a strong pace and pinch it at the line.

You all missed it, 3.55 Fontainebleau

Wins past his optimum trip again but there is only one FrankEL and

as Rhett Butler said in Gone With The Wind:-

    "Frankle(y) my dear, I don’t give a damn!!"

ps was he trained by the lesser known trainer Cecil Henry?

I’m chuffed really having already bought my ticket for Ascot in October. I would have loved to see him contest the Arc but his participation there would probably have meant me not seeing him run again. At least now we British racing fans have the chance to see him sign off on home turf.

I like your thinking and attitude regarding this.

I am sure that there was a time when, if it were guaranteed that Frankel would run in the Juddmonte and Champion Stakes, most people would have been delighted. There was a feeling that Frankel may never run beyond a mile and it was mouth-watering to think about him tackling the 10f trip.

Now that he has done so successfully, instead of being satisfied and looking towards him repeating the feat in the Champion Stakes to prove it was no fluke, we feel the need for the champ to prove himself over further still, in a race his trainer has never been associated with. IF Frankel DID run in the Arc and won, it would no doubt be speculated over whether he might just have won the triple crown last year and beaten Camelot to the punch had he been given the chance.

I actually dreamt last night that Frankel got beat in the Champion Stakes. Queally held him up really far off the pace and he didn’t quicken at all. The commentator had great faith that Frankel could still get there with only 50 yards to run but it didn’t happen and I felt as sick as a parrot.

I hope that whenever Frankel hangs up his shoes he will be unbeaten and remembered for the fact that he didn’t just beat horses, he absolutely crushed them. He is the best I have seen in almost 40 years of watching racing and I don’t think I will see another like him if I live for 40 more.

Stevielad you just got to watch more races.

I think Andy is implying that you must have missed a few races. If you think that this year’s Guineas was worse than the 1999 edition then you have to concede he may have a point.

Strangely enough, I never saw the build up to that race or the race itself. My wife was rushed into hospital in April and spent the next four months on the ward. I had an ante-post bet on Daliapour in the Derby that year but I never saw the race. Probably best remembered for the fact that Dubai Millenium didn’t win the race in the light of his subsequent exploits.

These comparisons are usually down to the individual opinion, as it is very time consuming to break down the race in question to the nth degree to "prove" how bad the race was. Part of my issue with this year’s Guineas is as much to do with how poor a prospect the race looked quite a while before it was due to take place. My heart sank when Harbour Watch came out and not just because I had a juicy ante post voucher on him, once Most Improved came out the race looked so uncompetitive and we had to cast an eye towards France for some potential opposition to Camelot. On the day I backed Camelot in a double and Abtaal singly. After the race I made the decision that Camelot would win the Derby and that I wouldn’t back anything else from the race. Come the Irish Guineas I cracked and placed a bet on Trumpet Major, then watched his odds collapse to ridiculously short before stinking the place out. I have kept my promise since then though!!

Camelot still could be something special but I just have the feeling he won’t tackle and beat older horses this season. Just my gut feeling at the moment, good luck to those who are keeping the faith in him. That’s what the game is all about.

Masterstroke is now generally 16-20. It is amazing really, he still needs to improve around 10lb to make the frame in an average renewal of the race. I asked for a price for the double of winning on Sunday and winning the Arc and the firm never bothered to get back to me.

I looked through the betting and selected Masterstroke, Imperial Monarch and Main Sequence as three available at 20/1 who I wouldn’t touch with a barge pole. Camelot at 9/4 is laughably short.

I reckon Nathaniel should be double figure odds and given that Danedream has been there and bought the t-shirt she should be a fair bit shorter than Nathaniel, given the extra questions he has to answer by comparison. I think Danedream would be my choice with the gun at my head, and if she were trained by O’Brien or Fabre she would be the favourite as far as I am concerned.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
