After a break of 2 or 3 years I started dong AW figures again at the beginning of November ……… they’ve all disappeared

Surely they must be able to retrieve them ?

Yes, I’m not that fussed about missing the Sir Bob editions ……… it’s a bit painful watching him !

In the past I have rooted around the website and found a replay but think I’ll just give it a miss this week

Threeandfourpence is by War Front: there was an old story about the importance of good communication and they used an example, almost certainly apocryphal, of an officer at the front in the trenches trying to get an order back down the line by word of mouth: “Send reinforcements, we’re going to advance!”

By the time the message reach the generals it was, “Send three and fourpence, we’re going to a dance!”

    Ha !

I was racking my brains over this one last night ……… the only thing I could think of was that a ‘single’ used to cost six and eight so I was thinking ‘half a single, A side, B side’ …………. no wonder I didn’t get it !

I do think the show is much better when Matt is presenting ……… Sean is next best, Kelly, Catt and Sir Bob are a bit useless

I can take or leave Big Mac but he’s OK most weeks

McGrath has an annoying habit of not speaking when you expect him to as though someone should give him a nudge to start him off !

I like the ‘banter’ between Matt and Andrew Thornton

The young irisn guy who’s name I can’t remember is pretty good on racing and races, John Berry and Muscat know their onions

In in all it must be a pretty good show because I never miss it !

Seems to be a lot of bah humbuggery on here but I, for one, have been confused all week by radio sports bulletins going for the latest from the US Open

As tennis doesn’t enter my consciousness I keep thinking the golf is on until they start recounting the unpronounceable Russians who seem to dominate tennis

Just reading the latest on the RP site ….. she’s got fractured vertebrae in neck and back, broken cheekbone and eye socket

Better news is that a brain scan was all clear

despite all that the medical officer is quoting as saying that she’ll be ‘out of action for 3 to 4 months but she’ll be fine’

    Tough girl !

None of these season long points systems interest me

If I’m looking at a race for a wager I’m looking at the 10 horses that are running in that race on that day ……….. I don’t care what they might run in in a months time, it’s irrelevant to today’s race

Obviously I’m interested in what they’ve done in the past but not as regards some artificial points system

Racing happens every day ……… I don’t see the point of looking forward further than tomorrow

If there’s a big race in a week’s time look at it the night before, spend your time now looking at tomorrow

The only thing I might agree with is a designation of Premier League meetings if the fixture list could be ripped up and rewritten with just the one Premier League meeting every day ……… that would give your season a narrative.

Do you reckon that when one of her rides isn’t ‘off’ at Kempton on a Wednesday the trainer says ‘Not tonight, Josephine’

One angle on two year old races is to study the trainers modus operandi

Often the Post will comment like ‘yard not noted for first time out winners’ etc ………..make a note of these comments and build up a library of notes about each trainer

The old B2YOR site was invaluable for this with seemingly hundreds of ways of analysing trainers records for 2yo ……….no longer being updated but there’s about 10 years of stats on there

which yards put out first time out winners
who’s horses come on a ton for a run
which trainers use certain courses for their better 2yo

I haven’t kept this up as I’ve moved on but here’s the first few lines of my trainerfile from a few years ago. I had about 150 trainers on my list with new ones being added all the time

Allen, Conrad – not noted 2yo but had a big price debut winner 2012
Appleby, Charlie – come on for run ?
Appleby, Michael – not known for 2yo winners but usu improve for debut
    Bailey, Alan – odd 2yo winner, 9% since 2009
Baker, George – not noted 2yo except at Yarmouth ! 4% debut wins
Balding, Andrew – come on for debut run and keep improving with runs
Barron, David – can get winning debut, good record with 2yo (abt 18% win)

    this would be constantly updated

I suppose the advantage of this approach is that you’re often weighing up a race with different criteria to ‘the market’ so you have an angle that might not be reflected in the prices , ie opposing short priced ones based on the trainer and backing bigger priced ones that the market might have overlooked

Of course I probably lost money even so !

Generally racecourses don’t like Sunday meetings because they can’t get the Corporates in

More difficult to get sponsors and hospitality events

Obvious really ……… if you run a business and HSBC invite you and a few other businessmen to a day at the races for a bit of Masonic handshaking and secret deals to screw the workers, you don’t want to be going on a Sunday, you want to go on a Wednesday for a day out of the office

Good luck steve, …………. fingers crossed for you !

I’ve only had a quick look and won’t be risking cash but I do like the look of Via Ravenna, currently 11/2

On first glance I’d be put off Senga by the fact that she’s been beaten twice already in a 4 run career. I like my Classic horses to be unbeaten …….. the logic being that if they’re going to be the best of their generation they shouldn’t be getting beaten more than once in lesser races. (you give ’em one for inexperience or greenness or the general Chaos of horse racing)

But as I’m not having a bet I’ll cheer on Senga !

Just noticed that Delectation is running in the ‘Pouliches’ today, French 1000 Gns at Deauville.

    Currently 4th favourite at 10/1

    EW shot ?

haven’t really looked at the race but O’Brien runs a few and Haggas has a couple.

Of the home team I like Via Ravenna currently 11/2 ………..looks a fair bet !
