Well Im certainly no pro but I have been making a few bob over the last couple of years and keeping records now etc.  I really dont do e.w much because Barney Curley said in  his autobiog that it just wasnt value (esp at 1/5) odds.  I have however done it with those horses above 20 to 1 but significantly I have worked out recently that I would have made far more money over the last two years if I  put it all on the nose.  I still think that takes a lot of balls.

I bet even stake.  I dont vary the amount I bet depending on the odds.  I could never quite work out why you would if only to make your bank last longer.

Just on the point, Fsl, from what i hear, people are different when it comes to this type of thing.  I hear Graham Rix would never back a horse below 8 to 1 and I feel generally the same way but lots of people who make far better money then I ever could have no such fears.

I tend to agree that this is the best bunch since Persian war et al.  but I might be very very wrong. Its hard to compare across generations.   I had a few doubths coming into the race because Im cynical by nature but the three horses that should have destroyed the rest of the field did precisly that.  I think anyone that describes BI as lucky is a bit barmy really.  Every horse needs luck but he obviously needs less then others….he probably is also perhaps better than the margin of his victory suggests.

I would be very tempted by Buena Vista but definitly needs very decent ground.

Roseliers are by and large much better on softer ground.  The one exception I can think of being Bindaree.

Irrespective of if he wins, I think your entirely right.  Its the word at home that obviously makes him this price but I would be surprised if many pros are backing him.

I cant work out whether the Irish or British form is best at the moment and that makes this  a tricky race for me.  With genuine fast ground,  Pipes horse, Buena Vista (i dont know if he runs even) is the forgotton horse for me and at generous odds.

Senorita Rumbelita looks a nice proposition but connections did not seem so enthusiastic a week ago.  I wouldnt back her to be honest ….hasnt done enough.

Being by Roselier, he should like a bit of cut in the ground.  I think its a good race this and  a bit like the arkle, I would tend to avoid it as a betting proposition.

I think Our Bens form this year is similar to last year.  The race at leopardstown was reminiscent of Cheltenham last year and your right in saying that this is tailor made for him.  Has a tendency to jump a bit right also.

Darkness is also wonderful stayer and has course form.  Dont like his jumping one bit.

Commercial flyer might be the next Arkle for all we know but I would think that anyone backing him at current odds for what he has done are crazy.

Fair dues to you Jackane.   Tough industry to break I imagine.  I can imagine that I would disagree hugely with a lot of things you say….but then again, thats why it would be worth buying the paper.

However, I’d be curious to know what our Irish members think of the O’Grady horse

Well the dogs in the street over here know that O’Grady really rates this horse and has for some time.  This is part of the reason for compressed prices.  He’s good but I wonder if he lacks that instant acceleration often needed for this.

I tend to agree with slooch.  I know he might be brilliant but surely backing novices like this are dangerous<br>

[OK he’s not overburdened with wit and personality, but that’s not what he’s there for. He’s pleasant, polite and easy on the ear and the eye]

I WOULD HAVE USED THE WORD INANE.  I REALLY DONT RATE HIM.

Slooch …that is genuinely an interesting stat.  I would like to see his weight on the day.  I suppose it has to be said though that these modern day ex-frenchies have considerably more experience then the previous type of British or Irish horses.  Still a trend worth noting though.

Well if its a trick…its a good one….and a rather pointless one.  THese two people have been here for a while and yes, they seem to have the right credentials Jackane.  They certainly dont appear to be winding anybody up.

BTW, you dont make a very convincing JP.  Ive read your racing opinions.     Only kidding
