John Manners was often described as eccentric, he got fined when Cavalero won the Foxhunters as he got onto the course and ran up the run in after him. A journalist sent down to interview him stayed the night and recalled John riding Cavalero across the stable yard full tilt at midnight, jumping the gate and disappearing down the country lane shrieking as he went.
Isn’t it 25 years since a Grand National winner has subsequently won a race? Many Clouds would have to be Champion The Wonder Horse to defy that statistic. It would seem that horses these days leave so much of themselves behind at Aintree that they don’t have anything left for future races.

Good luck everyoneI think it’s a shame, I didn’t realise she was getting so few rides/winners these days. Still not in Seb Sanders territory though.

I remember years ago there was a horse called Mojo who had a BHA rating of 2. Considering the horse at Carlisle has never beaten a single horse home in 5 starts (he is shown as 6/7 on his debut due to a horse pulling up lame,) it raises the question of what pleasure must the owners get watching the horse get beat 25l + in sprints?
AP McCoy ” a pretty ordinary hold up jockey ” I’ve heard everything now. Jesus wept.
Ely Brown and the package for me good luck all. I think EB deserves another chance in spite of the national in the hope his wind op has done the job. The package has run well here before and if Cheltenham hasn’t taken too much out of him he should run well
I don’t think there is any justification for having a “special” handicap for just one race.
Presumably the flag man was helping with the stricken Balthazar King, it looked during the replay that there were ground staff holding up the screens around him. I’m not sure what training you would need to stand in one place for thirty seconds holding a flag but it’s worth pointing out that Ruby has ridden in thousands of jump races in a near 20 year career, your average flag man is probably the guy who helps build the fences every meeting and might have attended a health and safety briefing about where to hold his flag and not stick it up his nose etc. I would say the fellow jockeys were safer with Ruby holding the flag than anyone else. What other sport would you see one of the “stars” helping out like that? It reminded me of Davy Russell being the first person to help tend to Ballabriggs at the end of his National it shows how much the jocks care about the horses and each other.
