Mizzou is my horse for this, the Sagaro form looks strong and has improver written all over him. Looks sure to stay judging by his latest efforts.

    Always expect the unexpected.

Log Out Island for me. Thrashed Buratino on his debut by 5 lengths, since snapped up by Godolphin and been prepared for this race. 7/1.

A poor start but still early days.

I will look at Royal Ascot probably at the weekend, but I like the look of Mizzou in the Gold Cup, as the Sagaro form looks very strong.

Further ahead though Trip to Paris looks a good bet for the Northumberland Plate, a huge improver this horse. Again form lines with Sagaro second and Henry II victor Vent de Force is decent and stays very well.

    Always expect the unexpected.

Probably forgotten as it looks quite open and undecided, not sure what the final entries will be as you mention. As an outsider Berkshire would be interesting, but a concern we haven’t seen him yet. He tends to pop up at big prices and has already won at Ascot, which is a plus, in the Chesham a few years ago.

Paid a huge compliment to King of Rooks, who was impressive in his own right. Log out Island is my fancy, if he runs.

I don’t know if it was Sod’s law, but I did a similar bet Joni…terrible! All ran like pigs I’m afraid…strange as generally the combination have been in scintillating form this past month. They’re sure to have a decent Royal Ascot but unusually poor today.

Oops sorry did the first 3 rather than first 2? Would I get anything extra if both happened to come in?!

No Best of times, so I’m nailing my colours to the mast of ELM PARK, simply based on his excellent 2 yo form and the fact the ground doesn’t appear to be as fast as first thought…. I can just see Claire Balding blubbering at the side of Andrew when he is interviewed now….

It will have been 20 years since Saeed bin Suroor and Godolphin won the Derby with the brilliant Lammtara come Saturday, would it be inconceivable that Best of Times could outrun his massive odds and mark the anniversary with an unlikely win? Strictly on form you would say he is held by Storm the Stars, who in turn is 33/1, but looking back at the race the winner was ridden very aggressively from the front and clearly revelled in the conditions. BOT was in a good position all the way but didn’t quicken in the final furlong and doesn’t seem to have a great turn of foot, but he wasn’t fading in the closing stages though, so the longer distance may not be too bad for him. Connections did moot that the Tercentenary Stakes was the next aim, so whether he goes there after this remain to be seen, but they must’ve felt the horse was well enough to contend the Derby. He’s also in the Eclipse so quite a loft entry. Breeding suggests stamina is OK out of Nabati by Dubawi, and siblings include 1m2 and 1m4f winners in France. A little rose-tinted spectacles trying to justify his previous defeat I know, but at 66/1 he could be a lively outsider, and a sentimental winner too he would be.

Thanks VTC, after a bit of a hiatus I’m back and raring to go!

Things didn’t really go to plan with Lily Rules today, she’s looking hard to place at the moment after running well in G3’s last year. I did get it right not going with the 3 I mentioned though, just missed Mutatis Mutandis, who promised a lot as a 2 yo and is finally delivering now!

I will politely skip tomorrow’s card and move straight to Friday, where there is a great day of racing to enjoy. I will take a look at the rest of the action tomorrow evening, and concentrate on the Oaks now.

Starting with Legatissimo, she ran really well in the Guineas and won with a bit in hand in the end. I see no reason why she shouldn’t get the extra distance, however I feel she is a bit more exposed and was beaten by Jack Naylor last season. That horse too doesn’t have the potential as others and had a pretty busy 2 yo campaign. Diamondsandrubies seems to prefer softer ground judged on her efforts so far, and I don’t really rate the form of the Cheshire Oaks, with Entertainment soundly beaten NTO. Together Forever is interesting as she was staying on in the Musidora behind Star of Seville and should appreciate the step up in trip, while SOS seems a big price at 11/1, bigger odds than O’Brien’s horse bizarrely. She rates a danger but the one I really like is CRYSTAL ZVEZDA. There’s no telling how good this horse is as she romped home a few weeks ago, beating the well regarded Pamona and running on strongly suggested 1m4f is well within range. Stoute knows the dam family too having trained Crystal Star, who has since produced the useful Crystal Capella and Hillstar, who both stayed 12f. I see Richard Hughes riding as a plus having driven home Talent a few years ago with aplomb. 10/3 looks a decent bet.

    Always expect the unexpected.

Tony Coyle is in decent form with 3 winners from 10 runners this past week so from that regard augurs well for Lily. Bizarrely though looking at his stats for the season he hasn’t had a second place yet from 37 tries! She’s as low as 16/1 with some firms and 33/1 with others….on the prevailing ground she hast to have an outside chance, form is temporary, class is permanent!

    Always expect the unexpected.

To add a bit of culture, I believe Golden Horn is named after an estuary/inlet of the Bosphorus in Istanbul, Giovanni Canaletto is named after the Italian painter and Hans Holbein (“The Younger”) is named after a German painter from the 16th century.

ATR had an article regarding Epicuris and his Derby prospects.

    The article states:-

Among them is the Criquette Head-Maarek-trained Epicuris, whose route to the blue riband has had one or two twists.

Unbeaten as a juvenile when his wins included the Group One Criterium de Saint-Cloud over 10 furlongs, he was successful on his return to action at Longchamp in early April.

He was actually beaten in the race mentioned.

Is it asking too much for people to get these things correct?

Same article on Sporting Life too – poor!

Varian is still operating at a near 18% win ratio and although last couple of weeks he’s found a winner hard to come by, Talmada ran well today FTO at big odds which suggests his horses are still generally fit. I always view trainers being out of form in line with if their horses clearly need the run, or aren’t seeing out their races, but don’t think that’s entirely true of Varian. I too would give Aljamaheer a squeak as he tends to save his best for the big races.

    Always expect the unexpected.
