Well Chief, what a performance, what a training achievement! I know that Master Minded won but what an engine WC must have and what courage!!
Just a thought but after what everyone has said after last years champion, maybe this years champion proved that Tom Scudamore didn’t get it too badly wrong. Wonder what Mr. Barr thinks and who is going to ride it now!!!
I agree. I can’t work out what the thinking behind the Osana run was. Surely he should have finished much closer to Celestial Halo. It’s left me scratching my head!!!
Absolute superstar on a course that doesn’t seem to suit. Struggled a little round the tight bends but his courage is becoming legendary.
WHAT A HORSE!!I was really gutted that Lough Derg got touched off today. I don’t normally get animated watching racing on the tele but I was shouting him on and my wife must have been wondering what was happening. How does this horse keep going?
It says lots for the horse that after so many hard battles he’s still up for more. Never seen a horse move so poorly during a race, but what a heart he must have. I wish he could have won the Order of Merit last year, that would have been a result to cheer about!
What a way for David Pipe and Tom Scudamore to break their long losing sequences.Definitely a brilliant trainer but can’t stand the chap myself for reasons already mentioned.
Mamlook tailed off, Qulinton tailed off, Very Cool hampered but still tailed off. Could hardly raise a leg up the run in.
One swallow, doesn’t make a summer!!I’m a great fan of David Pipe and follow his runners closely and I’m pleased he’s withdrawn some of his horses today because for a while now they have been running very poorly. He went the whole of October, until the final day, without a winner and although he’s had the odd winner since his horses are still running very badly. They are travelling well enough in the early stages then going out like a light when put under pressure.
It will be interesting to see how Very Cool runs today because compared to his hurdles form, he’s incredibly well handicapped. Rapid Pete has just been pulled up at Fontwell. I’m not a fan of Tom Scudamore either. Family loyalty is fine but I just don’t think he is good enough to be a stable jockey. What a bummer for Tony McCoy. He chooses a David Pipe JP McManus runner in the last race at Cheltenham only to see the Jonjo runner hose home!! The David Pipe horses have been running like drays for quite a while now, the odd winner apart. I wouldn’t touch any of his runners with a barge pole even without Tom Scudamore riding!!! All of his runners tailed off today. Hard to weigh up either stable.
As I read the stable tour, I became more and more gobsmacked at the number of horses that had been operated on recently. Add that to the horses already previously operated on and the total percentage must be high. Perhaps Mr Nicholls is just extremely unlucky to have so many horses with breathing problems!!
Agree with everything you say Paul and I had a spat with Fist the other day but if you don’t take everything Fist says too seriously I suppose some of his posts might be considered to be mildly amusing. It is difficult though to hold back sometimes when you read some of the things he writes!!!
I owned horses Beckie…. 3 of them, 2 very good ones one I bought as a foal and sold it as a yearling….My best friend was a NH jockey and then a trainer. He was killed in a car crash………other than that I don’t want to talk about it other than to say I was right in the heart of racing and knew everything that went on during a trainers day……my friend was always 100% open with me and it gaeve me a great insight to how racing works
So who is this ex-jockey and trainer you keep harping on about – if he was such a special friend I thought you would be prouud to say who he was – after all you seem to boast about everything else you claim to have done.
a lot more than any stable lad or stable lass ever sees or is ever told.
Which, if you knew anything about horse racing and how a stable workks, is absolute rubbish – or maybe your "best friend" was not as honest and up front as he should be.
Again tell us who he is so we can form our own opinions – or is there something to hide?
Even if I hadn’t it doesn’t give you the right to be rude.
Thanks Fist for making my day – that is the richest comment I have seen in a long time – the words black, kettle and pot spring to mind.
I hate to shatter your illusions but you do not have exclusive rights to rudeness – if you can’t take it – then don’t give it old boy
Does a fellow member need to have my experience/luck to get any repsect from you?
We only have your word regarding your experience and luck and quite frankly I’m not inclined to believe any of it.
In my book respect has to be earned – I don’t deem a load of unsubstantiated boasts worthy of respect. There are many posters on this forum who know more about racing than you will ever know, There are people on this forum who probably win more than you will ever win. The big difference is they don’t go shooting their mouths off about it.
If you were any sort of a man you would apologise to Beckie for the comment you made about stable staff – that was the most offensive, patronising comment I have seen on this forum in a long time – hence my posting this now.
My insults?……..you come on here and the first word you use is RUBBISH………go learn some manners mate and don’t presume to know anything about me……..up until 30 mins ago I din’t know you existed……and you insult me twice for no reason……..there are streetfighting forums elsewhere mate and don’t forget to pick up your hat on the way out
Can give it but can’t take it!!

Raff……..My fiugures might be slightly out mate but if you learn to read I was talking about his 16 runs for Pipe after his first season when he ran the horse into the ground..or is that too much for your pea brain to understand !!!!……….cheeky mofo

Fist, I’ll learn to read if you learn to spell and also become a better mathematician!
I’ve noticed before how you use insults to cover your obvious lack of racing knowledge. Perhaps why not too many people seem to take you seriously.
I won’t hold my breath until your mate Peter trains a Grand National winner!!
LOL Fist shame they didn’t do a Black Jack Ketchum with him. Unfortunately winning involves sacrifices, we are dealing with racehorses not pony’s in a health and fitness field here.
Who is we? you own a horse? I wouldn’t let the Pipes train a pig let alone a horse.
I see Marcel won again as expected for my good buddy Peter Montieth…….2 out of 5…….Pipe 2 out of 19……speaks volumes to me……..No wonder David Johnson moved the horse…..Pipe near knackered the horse running him on firm ground when he was a young horse……..come Cheltenham he was done completely and ran nothing near what he was capable off………recently he ran him 4 times on firm ground which he now hates……Peter has kept him on good and good to soft and the results speak from themselves……there is more to the story but I won’t go into it.
The point is he was a perfectly good horse who Pipe ran the life out of and his form went to hell after…….many others wen’t so lucky and ended up in the knackers yard….Now he’s running the life out of a horse who should have been put away right after Cheltenham if not before.
12 months from now mark my words Lough Derg will be lucky if he has won 1 bad race……….you want to ruin him you do what Pipe is doing…. ….you call it sacrafice I call it stupidity and greed………as far as BJK and Jonjo is concerned I don’t see a connection……….Jonjo cares about his horses and would never do what Pipe is doing. If the owner insisted he would tell him to eff off and take his horse elsewhere. You can take that as gospel.
Rubbish!!
Monteith 2 out of 5 = 40%
Pipe 14 out of 30 = 46.6%Can’t agree with you Zoz…the horse is not top drawer, and there’s a £200k pot available. Why not take the chance if the horse is sound ? Tom Scudamore wasn’t hard on the horse once it became apparent that he was being taken off his feet. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
We know he’s a stayer and not a two mile horse but if people on this board are really saying that they wouldn’t have run a healthy horse today, then I don’t think they are being truthful.
I think a lot of the views being put forward here, are being driven by the fact that the trainer’s surname is Pipe.
Completely agree BSB. Lough Derg has run 15 times in the last 15 months, an average of once a month. What’s the accepted frequency for a fit, healthy horse. Are the detractors going to name and shame the trainers of the many other horses who have run many more times than Lough Derg in the last 15 months? Oh no, there name isn’t Pipe!!
When all’s said and done, as with everything, it all boils down to personal preference. Some of you obviously dote on Nick Luck, I don’t.
Agreed Aidan.
It’s easy to blame others for your own inadequacies.
The fact is that Godolphin have been pretty poor this year and they need to take a good look at their whole operation, jockeys included.
