As a side note, there was a Chelmsford racecourse at Galleywood long time past so ‘Chelmsford’ has had two past racecourses close down on them

So he’s injured but alive? I popped in especially to see how he is after his x-rated fall, and was ecstatic to not see him in the memorials

Coneygree will be run off his feet by any of the first five in the GC betting. Its too big an ask for a young chaser. The RSA would be the better choice of target

I think The Young Master is the best bet of the meeting, let alone the day. Outstanding form, ive not found a fault with it. Sound Investment today boosted the form again.

I’d never call any fatality “just one of those things”, we should always look at what can be done to improve the number of deaths. But when it comes to the death of these beautiful animals it is sometimes difficult not to be emotional and keep our wish/need to blame someone in check. Otherwise it is “a bit too easy” to find a scapegoat and end up blaming innocent people.

Its ‘just one of those things’ in that the equine frame is what it is. Vulnerable to injury. If you saw the At Reception injury, that was nobody’s fault and could have happened to any rider on any horse at any venue. The horse was hoofing along on the flat, then BANG, gone.

Of course we do what we can to minimise incidents, but injuries will still happen. You could ban NH racing and injuries would still happen. And when they do, it IS just one of those things as you can never eliminate all danger to horse or jockey. I think NH racing is getting its act together, but it will never be in a position to do ALL it can as its a money sport that demands jock gives horse a fair crack at running to its best possible position. In such a position, chances will be taken.

From where I was sitting, it looked to me that AP was giving him an easy time, and was just letting him pop the fence. Unfortunately, with hindsight, it wasn’t the best idea. But I think it’s wrong to accuse all concerned of not caring, as RL does. On another day, Burton Port may have scrambled over the fence and lived to enjoy a happy future. Sadly, just one of those things.

If you’d said to Sharon Murgatroyd, did she wish she’d pulled up, she’d have said yes. And her accident came when tailed off in a hurdle. Hindsight is a great thing, but useless in the real world. And yes, ironically, McCoy wld have come a cropper of the non tryer rules if he’d have not ridden for the place. One of those things.

What terrible news, the fall didnt actually look that bad on TV. That being what I saw of it before going out of shot. Terrible news, lovely old campaigner.

For me, from a punter point of view, the horse I always enjoyed seeing get beat was Hawkwing. Just so I could say "told ya!" to everyone who overhyped the horse.
Strictly because the name repulses me, Just Cameron is my current pet hate

Anyone else seem to think there was an awful lot of kickback? Looked like Southwell in 1994!

    Mike

One of the jocks said it was a bit "fluffy" and needed to bed in a bit with some rain. The track has hardly had any use in 6yrs, except for the odd workout. It will get better, but that exit before the WP is a concern. I can see carnage if an inexperienced one tries to duck across the whole field

There’s always Open Office which is freeware. The spreadsheet app is mostly the same as MS, but no doubt it will be less bloated than the Office alternative

    You forgot Lingfield.

Not sure if u were tongue in cheek, ‘leafy’ is Lingfield. But the track is a farce. If u are < four wide around the home turn its race over. Whether u are leading or not you get run down by fast finishers on the outside. Its a bookies track, built from the ground up to be unpredictable
One thing is for sure, Newmarket runners will go to Chelmsford, leaving Lingfield with smaller cards

    Slowhand

you dont look at the big picture at all :D

I am simply saying there is too much all weather racing as it is , British racing has been massively diluted by it , it ruins the great diversity of our racing that attracted loads of fans to it over the years

By putting on more aw races , more aw tracks , you are killing the game we know

Waste of life maybe , but I am stating my abhorence of slowly degrading and downgrading British racing

    Pipe …..smoke ….

The way I see it, Southwell serves no purpose as an A/W track as the form doesnt translate elsewhere. Dump it. Leafy, shocking bias to centre track and only used to pad the jumps fixtures out when it turns to the inevitable mud bath. Dump it. Wolves, Kempton and now Chelmsford serve all need. Tapeta, poly R/H and poly L/H. Do we need more?

The A131 is a relatively new development that basically chopped into the showground, access from Moulsham Hall Lane might have been a better option in hindsight freeing up the turnstile and entrance area for the stands? Am I right in understanding the stable area is across the road thru an underpass? Space at a very big premium at this track

So many horses that go abroad never come home, most tragic and unforgiveable being George Washington :(

Landseer sticks in my mind if im being honest. GW another one running in the wrong race. I dunno why we dont get that our horses aren’t bred to run on that dirt crap at that grade?

Echo the sentiments here, the wrong horse taking on the wrong race over the wrong code. What more is there to say, bar a great HURDLER died today in a race he never should have been in. Ive never backed the horse over the bigger obstacles for those very reasons. Seems we are the only ones who saw that. RIP Oscar

You win the S6 by picking two or three bankers and play pin the donkey with the other four.

    Ricky I totally agree
I never ever bet on it now and don’t watch it.
If that is what racing turns in to then I will no longer follow it and I have followed racing for the best part of 40 odd years.
You correctly say it was brought in as a filler if NH racing was off in winter and it was never meant for summer.
It reminds me of the computer racing that they show and to my horror people actually bet on and study form WTF is that all about. The lunatics have taken over the asylum.
    I am with you.

Agree with ya. There again, I cant buy a bloody winner anywhere right now.
When only the AW is on, I dont even switch on. Its like a ‘rained off’ day for me.
