Heard some very bad news about him after the Japan Cup. I hope they are wrong and that he can be saved.
    Any news appreciated.

Very sad ending. What were they expecting any way?
He ran against the best horses in the world and wasn’t able to win. Why would you take him to Japan with no proper form at all?
It’s not a race won by Europeans that easy and even a race bypassed by Coolmore who like to win every pot available. So connections went there with no plan at all and just hoping for a miracle. One that didn’t happen and left the horse dead.
But money buys everything including a lot of horses. Unfortunately not enough brain capacity.
    Rest in Peace Trading Leather!

Terrible news to wake up to. I loved this horse. I’ve always been concerned about the long-term well-being of progeny of stallions who weren’t sound enough to race beyond a handful of 2 year old races (however impressive they may have been in those). Looks like the dam never made it onto a racecourse at all. R.I.P. Trading Leather

His form wasn’t bad he was third just over 4 lengths behind The Grey Gatsby and Australia last time out. It’s a bit harsh on connections they wouldn’t have gone there just for a day out and no one can foresee how things panned out before the event.

    RIP Trading Leather.

He was rated 118 after his last race. That leaves him a stone inferior compared with the top Japanese horses. And no reason why he should improve on that form. And didn’t the ground look desperate to you? A bit like Catterick on a rainy day when you see no green, just brown mud????
You could pull your horse out of the race. Couldn’t you?

So many horses that go abroad never come home, most tragic and unforgiveable being George Washington :(

Ouija Board was lucky to have her injury picked up before running in the Hong Kong Vase, we would never have seen the likes of Australia if they hadn’t.

Poor Trading Leather I have to agree that there was no real reason to take him abroad when he could have been retired to stud.

A waste of a talented horse and he was only 4 years old.
    RIP Trading Leather

Landseer sticks in my mind if im being honest. GW another one running in the wrong race. I dunno why we dont get that our horses aren’t bred to run on that dirt crap at that grade?

Unsound sire, four crosses of Northern Dancer and six crosses of the unsound Native Dancer can’t have helped.
