I do agree with Paul in that if i struggled not to be upset anytime a racehorse gets killed in a race then i would simply stop betting and spend my saturdays going to various football matches for sporting entertainment.
Racing does have its good and bad days in the limelight and while Saturday was very bad for the Godolphin connections it was also a pretty poor weekend for the Winehouse family and the many families in Norway.
You do need to be thick skinned in this sport and if i found myself not enjoying watching these wonderful animals then i would happily walk on to pastures new.

Best thing would be for her to call some Greyhound races and also work on Trotting and Point to Points to get some experience in the business.
It was an interesting concept but maybe it should have been open to all commentating wannabes though as opposed to just women.

One thing which could be done is to get to a meeting with a BRC series race and hope you get collared by these people with camcorders who are asking the fans what they think and this would be a good plan to tell them when asked about your views of the series.
This new Champions Day will only benefit the very rich owners with prize money that could easily be given to the much smaller meetings.
Cannot believe though that they are hoping for a 30,000 sell out at Ascot, last year Cheltenham got more than Newmarket when they raced in October for last years Champions Day.
I bet they will get about 10-15,000 and then say they are pleased as it gives them something to aim for over the next few years.
Also forgot all the Take That fans last week who ended up in A and E in Manchester.
Makes you proud to be English.
Would also like to point out that a recent Rugby 7s tournament at Twickenham which had about 140,000 or so over two days with lots of different countries taking part and no doubt lots of drinking would have gone on yet NO arrests of any kind were made.
It is sad that this becomes a regular thing at racecourses in the summer, why cant people behave well and act like humans instead of animals when they go out??
Great news for racing and a much well deserved honour for a proper Gentleman of the Turf.
Now all we need is Ginger McCain to get some recognition for all his work over the years.
Sir Henry Cecil, sounds like its meant to be.
It is a tough question, its like asking two parents to name which child they love the most.
Royal Ascot hosts the best flat racing although the York Ebor would run it close, the only annoyance is the fact that the real racing fans are shoved out of the way so the people who go just to be seen and because they are expected to be their get given the best seats in the house.
I didnt even go to Royal Ascot at York, instead i went to Worcester and had a pleasant and much quieter days summer jumping instead.
Cheltenham is the better of the two as "The Roar" is an amazing sound and is sadly lacking at Royal Ascot.
As im from the North West i must also be loyal to Aintree and say the Grand National Meeting does it for me, A great three days and the Thursday is one of the best deals that you can get in racing for the sheer quality that you get for your money.
It was a Class 6 race at Brighton with some very poor horses ridden by young jockeys.
The pace was slow so the horse decided she wanted to go faster and the jockey had no say in the matter plus by going so fast downhill she was tired for the stiff uphill run.
Ive just knocked off Folkestone and Newcastle and i can say that Folkestone is a lovely venue to visit and well worth a good day out plus it is so easy to get to now with the new High Speed Rail link from London St Pancras.
Just seen the replay and it did look as if he mistook the marker where the rails divide as the winning post.
It looks like a genuine mistake but can understand punters being annoyed at him throwing away the race by thinking he had already won it.
I went to Kempton last year for the Racing Post Chase and i have to say it is a really nice course to visit.
Jumps are good as they have been moved towards the stands unlike my local Haydock where you need a telescope to locate nowadays.
It did sadden me though to see the rails still being inplace for the Jubilee course as this could still be used in the summer for some turf flat meetings using the hurdles course to finish on.
Id love to live their as during the week you could get home from work then go racing straight away.
A really nice course and has some top class facilities.
What annoys me is that somebody who just watches this race alone then thinks they are an expert on National Hunt Racing.
All Weather Hurdling was far more dangerous in its day and thankfully not part of the programme.
Aintree is now as safe as you can get, Australian jumps is much more worse with those appalling brush steeplechase fences and over here horses are taught to respect the fences.
The ones that spring to my mind are these
Doncasters turn from Rose Hill to the home straight.
York the turn away from the stands
Epsom from the 1m area down to the home straight.
Also forgot the following
Epsom Classic Trial
Ascot Sagaro Stakes
Perth Festival (ta AP)Still how can anybody complain about all this.
Four days is more than enough as this caters for all types of jumps races at the top level.
If you want to look at a Five day meeting which could be shortened down then look no further than Glorious Goodwood which after the four feature races for Television each day is quite low quality and could easily become a four day meeting where as Royal Ascot does do in Five days what Cheltenham does in Four.
Cant see Sandown being affeted that much as it is Military Day their and will as 4 of the races are only for the professional jockeys all the top ones will be a lot happier at Newbury as it is a more quality card.
Just wonder if C4 will cover it as they do Ascot the following day so cant take a lot of hard work to get about two cameras up their and just use the Racetech feed or even host from Ascot with a reporter at Newbury.
