Very upset now that I somehow seem to be getting blamed for posting incorrect information about Captain Dimitrios. I said in my original thread that he’d collapsed and died in the stalls because that’s what I saw. I also explained later in my second posting (after several people assumed that it was due to over-racing) that I had assumed he’d had a heart attack (although I hadn’t said that in my first)because of how he went down and I’d missed the commentary. I also said in my second post that I didn’t know what happened.
I’d at no time intimated that it was anyone’s fault or that it was due to how many times he’d run – some-one else did that because they’d looked up his career history.
It seems some-one made an assumption because of my wording and then it gathered speed.
I’ve been in tears several times this week because Captain Dimitrios died and I’m horrified that somehow I’m seen to have added to his connections misery because people have made assumptions because of my wording.
I won’t risk this again – I loved Captain Dimitrios and am now beating myself up incase i’ve made things worse for all of his connections so I guess this is my last posting. Thanks BlackGold, I’ve now looked at the postings. I feel absolutely desperate about this and can’t begin to imagine how his connections must feel.
I just hope the Captain truly didn’t feel any pain.
I understand this horse was loved and imagine his owner and trainer must feel pretty awful.RIP Captain Dimitrios – I’m sorry I’ll not see you again.
Is it that unusual? I notice the Easterby horses (for example) run a lot of times as 2 yr olds. And old Dvinsky – yes he’s 11 but he’s run something like 209 times. I’m not even sure what happened to Captain Dimitrios because he just seemed to collapse and lie flat in seconds so I assumed a heart attack because I missed the commentary, but the RP says he was fatally injured suggesting he’d been hurt.
I just wish it hadn’t happened. How I loved this horse. Beautiful, beautiful boy who I’m not sure got the credit he deserved.
Red Hot Poker got up to huge applause after a few minutes.
Hammersmith was fatally injured as well.
Totally agree with cjt62. Please remove pompete from the site – selfish, obnoxious, rude, not needed.
Thanks Pyewacket for the link. At least now I know he seemed to have a good life and to have been loved.
I have now found out that Leo did suffer a fatal fall at Aintree last April. Truly awful, but I’d rather know than just wonder where he went.
Thanks for that – I hate that horses just seem to disappear.
He only retired from stud duties last year. A really good horse who never got his credit for the Derby as it’s thought of as Dancing Brave’s Derby.
Hope the horse had a good life and didn’t suffer.
Unfortunately it wasn’t age. He was 22, but he died because he broke his leg in his field, I believe. I just hope some-one realised quickly and helped him before he suffered too much.
So unfair that this beautiful horse died like this. I can’t find anything about his death on the racing channels, after all his achievements.
