I am a huge man Utd fan and have been for 22 years, and if someone offered me a chance to go back in time and see either the Champions league Final of 99 or Kauto Star GC win in 2009 i would choose the later.
Cheltenham festival to me is the closest thing on earth to heaven.
Every single day of the festivl is magical and my whole yar is based around preparation for it
Punchestown is good but does not have the same buzz or excitment imo
wathed his race today, when h fell and hampered i think deep purple, he seemed fine and got up quck.
just read about this 10 minutes ago – i am a bit heart broken and gutted, good horse, one of nicholl’s top 10 in last 3 – 4 years
maybe they will re name the tingle creek, the twist magic tingle creek in his honour?
r.i.p twisto mate
Flat
Sea The Stars
– Pure genius, always had me on the edge of my seat and i never get bored of watching back his races.
Seabird II
– one of the greats, need say more
Harbinger – would have been one of best ever, but will always remember that run in the king george/queen elizabeh stakes
JUMP
Kauto Star
– my all time favourite horse … if i could only watch one horse again, he’d be the one ..i filled a dream by watching him run in the gold cup in march, although he fell he did me proud.. i cant wait to see this chasing genius run again.
wichita lineman
– i never saw this horse run live, just tv .. but something captured me about this horse, in particular when he won at the 2007 festival, when the commentator announced his name as one of the festival bankers it gave me goosebumps.] and made me proud to be a racing enthusiast when AP celebrated on top of the mount,, his sad death in 2009 was gutting, but he is a hero of mine
denman
– for the pure reason he won not only a gold cup so dramatically and convincingly… but for his hennessy performance in 2009 and 2010 – a brave 3rd witha stupid amount of weight to carry. still going good and a lovable horse
Barry Geraghty on Soldatino 2010 JCB triumph Hurdle
Cue Card is one of my favourite horses in training at the moment…
but how the fk can you compare him with arkle, when he is a novice hurdle at 4 yr old … crazyness if you ask me
I am looking forward to this race … as seen in previous years.. the winner of this race often goes in to the Gold Cup the following year
Cooldine
,
Denman
and so on …
last year
Long Run
looked like a contendor and ran not an amazing race …
Weapon’s Amnesty
ran a great race and i fancied him for the Gold Cup this season, until he was ruled out due to injury.
This seasons race, i really am tempted to wager
Time For Rupert
… although his first season away from the hurdles i am convinced he will run a good race if he of course stays fit and running well
Quite frankly – NO !!
For me Jason Maguire – class jockey, and Mattie Bachelor – good jockey also
I am a Kauto Star addict, he is my favourite ever horse and i cannot think of a FINAL underline than to run in and wint he Hennessy.
Looks like it isn’t happening after PN and CDS decided against it.
In all honesty i think it is the correct decision.. his main goals are the 5th King George and then the Gold Cup. I doubt PN would contradict himself and run Kauto in the Hennessy and then the King George, as he said being fresh is the key with him.
I predict when he reaches 11 YO in march he will be retired, but then again who cares if he has never won the Hennessy or not … he has nothing to prove.. leave the final showdown vs The Tank and IC until March
What A Friend beat Imperial Commander in the Totesport Bowl at Aintree who jumped absolutely rubbish, which led to the unseating of Paddy Brennan.
If IC jumps well, he will win !, but don’t count What a Friend out too easily
7/2 is a crap price though for him against IC
I have learnt:
Time for Rupert
is a class act and well worth a punt ante post for March
Getmeoutofhere
is pants and no where near good enough at the moment to challenge for Champion Hurdle, and should get over fences as quick as possible, as his handicap mark is obviously too much for him.
Menorah
is a hell of a lot better than i thought and my favourite now for the Champion Hurdle … (although i still fancy
Khyber Kim
)
Long Run
is not as good as people make out, and i always knew his 7/2 down to 2/1 for Paddy Power was farrrrrr too short and a bookies saviour. I definately wont be backing him again this season as his jumping is not good enough for Cheltenham
My big mention in this post goes to
Cue Card
, i have mentioned it several times on the forum, but last festival he was phenomenal in the bumper and destroyed the field … best novice hurdler i have seen for 12 years, since when
Istabraq
was coming up … my dead, DEAD cert for Sumpreme Novice’s
when i was at the festival in march… i was over whelmed by great perfomances twice in the week … by Big Bucks in the world hurdle, and cue card in the bumper … a quarter of a mile from home he was cruising and knew he had won it… 40/1 too wow!
there is a certain spark about this horse that i have not seen for a long time in a novce hurdler … as mentioned, he seems to relish the crowd and almost plays to it … what a job the Tizzard’s have done.. should not RUSH in to thinking he can take on the likes of Binocular, Khyber Kim, Hurricane Fly in the champion hurdle, and should nail the supreme novices.
one of my big punts come march,,,
Tough race to call. Some class acts on display with Menorah, General Miller, GMOOH and Sanctuaire.
I was impressed with all of these horses last season – if i had to put my bankroll one one id choose General Miller E/W @ 8/1
Channel 4 is showing racing from Wetherby, Ascot and i think Newmarket this afternoon
Makes sense when you think about it. Purely precautionary as they have to get a run into him before the King George and they don’t have lot of option.
If Down Royal was abandoned then he The Hennessy would most like be his next option as he wouldn’t want to take on Imperial Commander. PN has knocked that idea on the head already as he knows it could turn into a real slogging match.
Considering Denman has won it twice quite easily. PN probably thinks if he was forced to run Kauto he could do it even easier.
i agree with most of what you said, apart from easy in last year’s Hennessy, i think What a Friend put up a massive challenge, and Denman giving away 22lbs to WAF was far from easy, only getting away from the last fence quicker gaining a length 1/2 made it look easy.
WAF a serious challenger to the big 3, KS, IC, Denman this year !!
yes you’re right i read it wrong i thought he was cofirmed.
what a treat it would be though for both denman and kauto to go head to head on the 27th
i doubt Nicholls would be so clueless to run Kauto at Down Royal and then 3 weeks later at Newbury when he wants him fresh for Kempton (1 race being fresh) before KGVI chase
we shall see anyway, Hennessy is always mouth watering opening to season first big race
