He certainly looked well beforehand, Gaz – Quentin Collonges did too, as it happens – but there’s no doubt in mind that he’ll come on plenty for it.
A top class prospect.
November 1, 2010 at 22:33 #325826Impressive or what, super performance by an exiting prospect. The novice staying division looking top class, with Wayward Prince and Tell Massini looking extremely taking over the large obstacles. Looking forward to seeing Reve de Sivola and the Mullins horses making their debuts in the coming months.

November 12, 2010 at 18:26 #327685I think Time For Rupert looks very solid for this – well done to anyone who took the 12/1. Having said if I owned him I would definitely give him a Gold Cup entry in a year where we may see a changing of the guard.

I don’t think he’d have dropped Mr Thriller had he stayed upright, stilvi, and with Reve De Sivola disappointing a Gold Cup entry might be a tad optimistic!
November 12, 2010 at 20:23 #327703Took the 12’s myself
, just before the off (albeit in a mug acca & Lucky 15 &31
).Was happy enough with that display, and hoping there’s more to come. Don’t think it’s his year for the Gold Cup, but I’d be very disappointed if he doesn’t end up to that standard in the coming seasons.
November 12, 2010 at 20:45 #327710He was off the bridle from a long way out, and Reve De Sivola ran no race at all.
Both will potentially come on for the run, but i wouldn’t be rushing to back Time For Rupert just yet, personally.

It’ll be interesting to see how Wayward Prince performs this afternoon. He didn’t jump flawlessly at Huntingdon, but as I said earlier in the thread he did look very well and will have come on stacks for the outing.
November 13, 2010 at 09:27 #327752I personally think Wayward Prince was excellent at Huntingdon.
Will be interesting to see how he jumps round Cheltenham today.
Berties Dream may be another one to watch in the race today, looks a nice little race.
November 13, 2010 at 17:14 #327805Just to back up what i said above really, Wayward Prince has impressed me a lot in his career, and i would much prefer to be in either his or Tell Massini’s camp, rather than Time For Rupert and co.
Wayward Prince travelled much better than Time For Rupert, yes, different races, but i thought Wayward Prince jumped well (despite his trainer stating the opposite).
November 13, 2010 at 17:24 #327808Chicago Grey looked to still be going quite well when he came down. I’d be disappointed if there isn’t a few Irish trained novice chasers that are better than him.
Gordon Elliot himself, probably has a better one in his yard in Jessies Dream.

Time For Rupert has a stone or more in hand of these horses on hurdle ratings – there is nothing to suggest it won’t be similar story over fences. Wayward Prince who wasn’t impressive (arguably may not even have won but for the casualties) had the benefit of a previous run and was running over a longer distance.
November 14, 2010 at 13:59 #327922Thegreatjohnbrowne was very impressive in the Florida Pearl. Easily the best performance I’ve seen from an Irish novice this season. His jumping was spectacular.
November 17, 2010 at 21:20 #328385Quel Esprit very impressive today; jumped like abuck, responded when headed, firts two were miles ahead of the rest. Could be a contender

He travelled well, but i think he will need to improve a fair bit to be a contender in the RSA chase (that’s if he is even going to be targetted at the race). Beating Torphichen by a few lengths isn’t anything to get too excited over, i feel.

Of the two I thought Torphichen was the one to take out of the race; I won’t be rushing to back the winner next time.
November 18, 2010 at 21:27 #328560Mullins’ horses always improve a tonne for their reappearance.
I couldn’t have Torphichen turning that form around, particularly over further. It was only 2m3 yesterday and Quel Esprit is thorough stayer (put a line through his run in the 3 mile novice at Cheltenham where he hardly had an ideal preparation).
November 19, 2010 at 19:56 #328707I am looking forward to this race … as seen in previous years.. the winner of this race often goes in to the Gold Cup the following year
Cooldine
,
Denman
and so on …
last year
Long Run
looked like a contendor and ran not an amazing race …
Weapon’s Amnesty
ran a great race and i fancied him for the Gold Cup this season, until he was ruled out due to injury.
This seasons race, i really am tempted to wager
Time For Rupert
… although his first season away from the hurdles i am convinced he will run a good race if he of course stays fit and running well
