I would love to see trainers using befair providing we have a rule saying trainers must give their names.

Looking through some old papers the other day. I found what I think is my copy of Accu-form. This does allocate points in a similar manner to Fineform. It gives points for the last two race placings and the best race placing of the previous two races. Then it gives points for a  course win and points for a distance win. Then on a scale it awards points for the most recent last time out.
A bit complicated for most persons taste.

    Hi
I’ve just had more mail trying to sell me a system
called JEWEL IN THE CROWN!
Supposed to cost £99 .
I wonder if anyone else gets as much junk mail trying to sell systems as I do.
I wouldn’t mind but I only bought three systems five years ago one called "Accu-form" and I can’t remember the names of the others . They were not very good, I’ve learn’t my lesson and not bought any since, yet my name and address must still be on a mailing list.
Regards
John

I more or less taught myself how to bet by trial and error using systems. I have since stopped using systems to wager money on a regular basis. I now try to study form. However there is always a point of doubt about a horse when at the back of my mind I know that several systems would discard it.
I often seems to hit long losing runs when doing it myself with form study.
Then I am tempted to go back to using a system.
I’ve not yet done so, however I am still on the look out for a good system and I often paper trade with systems that I have seen on this forum.:)
Thanks Kevincater
I have heard of the fineform formulae. :) The full formulae also adds 3 pts if in first 3 of the SP forecast plus an extra 4 points if in the top 3 of the newspaper form ratings. However the fineform formulae is copywrite protected so I assume you cannot use it without permission from Clive Holt. There is I believe a similar formulae called Accu-form, I do not know how that gives points though.
Regards
John

I would like to see the actual weight of the horse, on the day it is racing, published. Then at least we would know if the horse is fit. Presumably most horses unfit and not trying will be overweight.
John:)

A small improvement to this points method. Look for races that contain a horse which has last raced fewer than 8 days ago. Only use these races.
Apply the points method, then if the top on points last raced fewer than 8 days ago this is a selection.
You may not get many bets.
But it is quick to use and you will very often be on a winner.;)

Does anyone out there know of a similar perhaps better points type system?

I am not slagging off gummy racing. I think they do a reasonable job. What I am against is forums charging £50 or more for access. If everyone on the net charged substantial sums of money to access a few pages eventually no one would be able to afford it. If we make all knowledge private and charge for access to small amounts of this, we will all eventually end up ignorant.
The Universities already operate a kind of closed shop where only a few have access to much of the knowledge they possess, and this is at a price many cannot afford. How many Universities freely put their knowledge on the net? I don’t know. Should information be packaged in small bundles and then a high price charged for access to it? Again I don’t know? But I suspect as usual greed and eliteism will prevail in British society.

I think it is a rip off charging £50 to access a forum. Yet another website trying to milk those interested in racing for every penny they can get.
Most people of a certain age such as myself are aware of the VDW method. There used to be regular letters in the Raceform Update on the subject.
VDW uses ability ratings. These he defines as prize money won to date divided by number of races won.
He also looks at the last three race placings as a measure of how consistent a horse is. The only problem I see with VDW is that if you want to use ability readings then you have to buy a Racing Paper for the information. If you buy a Racing Paper you may as well study the form in more depth than look at a simplistic
view of ability ratings.:)

I prefer the Flat. I like horses and on the flat fewer horses get hurt.
JAR:)
