Hidden Cyclone would vaguely interest me at 25/1 given that ‘Shark’ thinks the world of him and in hindsight put up an extremely strong effort in December last year against First Lieutenant and Zaidpour over 2 miles, before having his next 3 starts over at least 4 furlongs further. Whether he needs soft ground or not, well that’s part of the 25/1. He’s gone off at sub-7/2 for all starts bar that loss.
I’m a big fan of the horse but I wouldn’t pay too much heed to what the Shark says. He’d talk up a three legged donkey and tell you he was the best he’d trained!

Took this price this morning. I think he’ll come on for his Paddy Power run and the jumping test that Sandown presents should play to his strengths. A lot of his rivals in this have question marks over them. Sizing Europe had a hard race up the North and I’ve never been a huge fan of the horse. Tataniano has never really justified his lofty reputation for me and I don’t think the race Kauto Stone won was up to much.
I wasn’t really sure where I’d seen the quote but it turns out it was this article in the Irish Times:

I must just have glanced at the headline.

Thread going well for you anyway. Keep it up!

High class juvenile last year and this does not look a particularly strong novice chase. Escortmen looks the main rival and his recent form suggests he’s a total lunatic of a horse.
Ah Dessie is alright. Still gets himself up for the big races which is what matters. His call of Dawn Run’s Gold Cup is still the best commentary I’ve ever heard.

Really liked the way this horse won his bumper at Ludlow recently and he looks like he possesses plenty of scope to make up into a nice jumper.
Binocular won a poor Champion Hurdle, no doubt about it. The fact that Khyber Kim and Zaynar chased him home says it all – not Grade 1 animals in a million years. Both Solwhit and Go Native ran no race but both had legitimate excuses.
He has been visually impressive on a few occasions – most notably at Liverpool as a 4yo and at Ascot in the Bula later that year. However, he was only beating Celestial Halo in both those races. An admirable little horse, but again not a hurdling superstar by any stretch of the imagination.
Binocular is too soft against the best of the best and looks regressive now. Hurricane Fly made scutter of him at Punchestown in May. Overturn, who beat him fairly comfortably yesterday, was out with the washing in the Champion Hurdle. Binocular may win another soft Grade 1 somewhere (Kempton most likely) but he hasn’t a prayer in a Champion Hurdle these days.

Might as well outline the reasoning behind this bet. I seen this horse when he won his p2p and I’ve followed his career ever since. I was surprised around this time last year that they were keeping him to hurdles but he clearly possessed more speed than I realised. I think that running a machine like Hurricane Fly to a length will read exceptionally well in time.
His first chase was a bit of a non-event but he had to give weight to a fairly useful rival yesterday in Minella Class (Tolworth winner and still bang there turning in in last season’s Neptune) and he beat him easily.
I can’t see too many novices out there that will challenge him. I have my doubts about Al Ferof. The Supreme Novices form does not look overly strong and to my mind, that horse is a bit too quirky. I’d respect Sprinter Sacre but he found little up the hill last season and could be another Finian’s Rainbow. Horses like that don’t tend to win Arkles. Menorah is the only UK horse with hurdles form to compare with Peddlers Cross but he fell on debut and is on the easy list for a few weeks I understand.
I don’t think there’ll be much of an Irish challenge. Solwhit would have been interesting but he has had a setback and it is now doubtful as to whether he’ll jump a fence in public this season. Gigginstown hold all the aces as far as Irish novice chasers go but they all look like horses who will be better over further than 2 miles. The likes of Days Hotel and Lucky William are nowhere near good enough. Day Of A Lifetime might be interesting but he clearly isn’t the easiest to train and he’ll need to be a fairly special horse to beat Peddlers Cross given his lack of experience.
Given how well Mike Winters’ horse ran there I’m having a wee bet on his filly in the bumper. Was really taken with her back at Listowel.
