How sad. Could easily have been a Cheltenham legend but unluckily touched off in the Arkle for his 3rd win at the festival and then an unlucky non-runner in the next year’s Champion Chase.

    RIP Champagne Fever.

I put Ian Gosden up for this. The main reason, the bravery in going for the Champion Hurdle. All hurdles have to be jumped and in two big races last year Golden Ace jumped the best.

And Billy was only 19 whilst Fallon was 37. Fallon wasn’t even chea…sorry riding for the Ramsdens at that age.

I believe Skelton is still odds on.

Mullins won last season’s title without winning one of the big 4 races at the Festival but he ran amok at Aintree and won fairly easily in the end.

I think it may well come down to the GN again this season.

Skelton may need to win one of the big ones at Cheltenham but one of the horses will need to step up whether that’s The New Lion, L’Eau Du Sud or Grey Dawning.

I’m hoping Skelton wins it. He certainly deserves it.

Well they’ve finally done it. Mainly thanks to the bowlers on a friendly wicket.

Yet another injury though. So that’s Wood, Archer and now Atkinson who have picked up injuries with Stokes injured earlier in the year whilst for Aus, Cummins has only played one test and Hazlewood out for the series.

Are fast bowlers soft nowadays? I’ve worked out that England have bowled 458 overs in 4 matches this series. Fred Trueman used to bowl 1,000 overs a season on quite a regular basis back in the day and probably finished each day with a few pints and ciggies.

I know Trueman would not be able to keep up with the modern pace of today’s game but he was hardly a trundler. Just a great fast bowler with a great action.

Yes really pleased for TJM and Harry. At the price he would have been the one for me. The big question was the bounce factor but he jumped great and showed massive guts to get back up.

Brilliant finish and the race lived up to the hype. Looking forward to next year at Aintree with the 4 furlong run in from the last.

A little better from England this test match but the Ashes have gone.

Having Aus 94-4 in the 1st innings and then dropping Khawaja on 5 who went on to make 84.

There were two dodgy decisions that went against England involving the technology.

It seems England have batted better this match but there are still the brain farts most notably Brook in the second innings.

Shows that England could beat Australia with a bit more luck and application especially with the bat.

I think its been better in recent years but I believe after Bindaree in 2002 the next horse to win a chase after winning the GN was Many Clouds. Others in between may have won over hurdles.

When Bazball started it was belief that got England through matches. They chased some big 4th innings totals down on a regular basis.
