Charlie Appleby seems just a bit off from last couple years , still getting winners but the ones hes got in a moment seem very hit and miss . Ebbs and flows as intakes come in i suppose , still a great trainer.

Its great when certain races stick in the mind , Soba winning that year did as i was only 12 and my nan used to put on some 10p wins 5 p win yankees for me . Got me hooked and also taught me good lessons to bet only what you can afford to lose , although my stakes are a bit higher 41 years later . Millfontaine was another winner that year i remember backing . Weird really as it was only few pence winnings but good times .
David Chapman a legend , didnt he win that channel 4 trophy plenty times , Chaplins Club and Glencroft would win days in a row when on song and in well .

Venture to Cognac , seeing the name Wicky Wicky Wheels takes me back , i remember the first Wiki Wiki Wheels , i recall he was named after a Cayman Island Taxi firm . I think i backed him at big Goodwood meeting in early 80s , sure he won but memory hazy . Was the year Soba won , and i definately backed her .
I think a few years later a horse called Miki Miki Motor went round for while .

The owners rep quoted in racing press drawn wide they were going to go back and hope for luck day before race so in that respect Murphy followed instructions .

I dont think start cost him too much , he had no choice from outside gate but to drop in and ride for luck . Just needed a bit of space to move forward into the last bend . Not far from being a great ride from the 12 stall . Shame he couldnt quite get there .Started quicker could have been trapped out wide in the breeze and doing it tough round first bend .

Going to have little each way interest Howth , running into form , dropping some rating points and first try at trip may suit .

Managed to drag my Dad to 1987 Eclipse , went to most winter meetings at Sandown at the time but took a bit to get him to the flat as a lifelong jumps man. Still remember him whinging on and on that he didn’t want to buy the course just watch the races after paying the entrance , sure it was 20 quid , a lot at the time . Mtoto beat a top notch field , a good days racing .
Mtoto , sure he had hoof issues they had real trouble with .I see Roberts almost got the big winner in South Africa last weekend .

5 runs for last trainer 4 on good , one soft ,take out the soft , on good 3 runs he beats 4 in total beaten out of sight , the other 3rd of 18 beaten 3 lengths . Just seems no pattern to form at all

His form throughout career makes weird reading purely on SPs , goes out at 250s , does nothing, drops to 40s in handicap , fair enough I suppose ,maybe light in first time , does not a lot , then goes out at 11/2 in broadly similar race next up . All those races mid prep so no real fitness issues youd think . Goes out at 100s at Chepstow beaten 70 lengths , then next up similar race Exeter 11s . All way through his form to me looks odd .
He was crawling all over those first two this week on 11st odd , if it were me I wouldnt be paying the training fees for those behind too much longer .

Ballydoyle has lost The Cliffs of Moher and Anthony Van Dyck in the Melbournne Cup and The Pentagon and Witchita to trackwork injuries in OZ . A lot has been written about those . Some say its the training on a tight turning track at Werribee that rides fairly quick , compared to at home generally up a straight gallop and their bones and joints not strengthened enough for it .

They race their horses a lot so i guess more chance of injury percentage wise .

Mogo Magic bolted in , very green , done it the hard way on the lead ,maybe on this occasion owners were right , targeting a restricted 2 million buck race in spring , and on yesterdays run will be very hard to beat if he gets the rails .
As for Packing Sissoko , I will keep an eye out if he pops up in OZ or NZ . Owner sends a few down if they fail up there .Couple of Packing this and that going round at moment .

Different distance range but i see today owners of a horse called Mogo Magic from OZ have turned down in region of 1.2 million AUD , about 700k real money . Hes gelding with two wins in country midweek NSW and one highway at Randwick a race restricted to out of City trainers . Bird in hand sometimes best but if he lives up to hype in OZ he can win that easy . But hes a long way from that a moment . In light of that Waipiro would imho worth at very least double that formwise ,
Id always take the money , years ago owners of horse called Kinane turned down silly money from HK , he had won grp3 at Randwick i think , horse couldnt pick his feet up after that , everytime he turned out peools said ” should have took the money !!!”
Mogo races today Rosehill , he had better win !!.

If AR has off day and he will need to Up and Under form solid around other runners , and was well ahead of Tower of London this season and he looks smart . At 12s Ladbrokes his form with White Birch makes him decent each way value to me when viewed where White Birch sits in market .
Nice and fresh into race .

Actually one I noticed back on the track last week was The Summit , 2 nd in French Derby few years back , went to HK I assume for big money ran poor . He has been gelded , had 2 and half years off . Went ok fresh up without trial , he will get a win in OZ , will need to shed some rating points but big yard has him so must be showing a glimmer of old ability .
