Sadly lost at York today rip
VF x
August 25, 2023 at 19:31 #1660979Is this confirmed VF? I (along with many others) have been trying to find information but haven’t seen anything yet, though the AOB fansite tweeted “RIP” before it was true and many picked up on that before it was deleted.
August 25, 2023 at 20:03 #1660986Very sad to see this confirmed in the racing post :
It was a bittersweet day for the Balding yard, whose Nate The Great had to be put down after being pulled up. “As ever, York looked after him as best they could right to the end,” said Balding. “He dislocated a joint and did a lot of other damage around it. It was decided the best thing for the horse was sadly to put him down.”
Condolences to connections.
August 25, 2023 at 20:31 #1660990How awful. I was hoping that “no news was good news”, even though it looked bad. Almost identical spot to Themaxwecan’s accident and in a race of the same distance. Coincidences happen but you do wonder.
August 25, 2023 at 23:03 #1661012Might be my eyesight but looked a darkened area at that point in track ,unofficial path across track ?? , Looked a couple of times and Iam sure there is something there path wise .
August 25, 2023 at 23:12 #1661014That is definately a crossing at that point , can see the rails on inside . Two at same point of track , I know coincidences happen but how many horses gone all round that track in 3 days so far and that spot incidences occur .
Maybe it is a coincidence, Iam no turf expert of course .August 25, 2023 at 23:50 #1661016Was there not a point in the first race where the grey Intinso was seen to jump something on the track. It should be looked into.
So sad to hear of Nate The Great’s fatal breakdown especially as stable companion Coltrane was being cheered home by the crowds. No celebrating for the Balding yard in that race and thoughts are with all his connections.
RIP Beautiful boy. 💔Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 26, 2023 at 01:20 #1661027Lost at the same meeting as Themaxwecan. Both ran in the 2019 Lingfield Derby Trial.
August 26, 2023 at 11:14 #1661090One of my favourites, Oscar Elite, was lost earlier in the year, he broke a leg crossing a track on the bend at Ayr. Surely these incidents should be looked into by racing authorities ? If there’s a well worn path across the course that track will be lower/harder/slippery and liable to cause injury to horses stepping onto that small section at racing speed.
