“Smith put Kauto back into training again for dressage”
He gave a “display” at Olympia and it was a stilted, lifeless embarrassment. The injury was nothing to do with it though, he was out in the field IIRC

Bonanza Boy was one of my favourites. Probably because I used to love watching Bonanza with my dad* and he was a regular in the Grand National.
*a fight has just broken out as Tom used to watch The High Chapparal with his dad, and maintains that it had a better theme tune and was a better programme. Nonsense on both counts.

Very disappointed in Espresso Milan. He battered a few hurdles at Cheltenham and faded but he jumped better (not perfect but adequately) today and then went out like a light. I didn’t think he was too terribly free (though maybe just couldn’t see on my phone screen) but that was poor. Pleased for Harry Derham though and it’s great to see GB trainers rewarded with big wins over here.

2.30 Toll Stone 12-1 ew I like the jockey/trainer/owner combo though it depends on mark management for Galway I expect
3.05 Eagles Quest 28-1 ew Danny be trying hard to win for his mum and the owner (saw a nice interview with them, hope he does it)
3.40 I usually like this race and had hoped that Saint Baco would run here. Bit meh this year. Quinta de Lago? Bunting? Meh.
4.15 Espresso Milan 28s ew 4pl, super price, bet of the day for me
4.50 Dromard on the drift (ground related?)against razzier flattier types but I really like him and bet him anyway, think he’s going to be a good horse for the future. Some nice ones in here- I liked The Wager’s run at Cheltenham, and Of Land And Sea might be worth an ew at a big price- I loved the sire Crystal Ocean as a racehorse
5.25 Got to bet old pal Classic Getaway 25s ew even though big fields maybe not his bag. Also
Magic McColgan 18-1 ew PU blowing hard last time, she’s better than that
6.05 Can’t not bet Grangeclare West and Champ Kiely even though it will be a miracle if either win especially Champ Kiely racing keen in the National. Actually Inothewayurthinkin, on his favoured ground, might be the one to upset the big 2 but I’ve never bet him and not going to start now
6.35 Wonderful Everyday 12-1 ew gets her ground, should’ve bet her last night as she was twice the price but oh well.

“Haven’t they learnt anything from the sad demise of Trueshan?”

Trueshan didn’t die of being too old to race. He was 9. Horses can break down down at any age, albeit he was racing on quicker ground than his optimum.

Who are “they”? I don’t think Trueshan and Edwardstone have any owners in common (happy to be corrected).

Can’t blame Alan King for hedging when interviewed immediately post race- he’s not the owner so he can’t declare the horse retired and it wouldn’t have been fair to expect him to voice a strong opinion before he’s had a chance to talk to the owner.

I do think it’s a bit mean of interviewers to march up to winning connections of an older horse and say , pretty much: “Well done, but anyway now that’s over, you’re going retire him on the spot, right?”
    Let them enjoy their moment.

Good race. Glad they all got round safely too. Maj looked laboured, don’t know if it was the ground. Marine gave it a right good go.

    “16:15 Eachtotheirown 16/1 EW”

Missed that you had him Ruby, great stuff. Fair dues to the trainer he picks some nice horses and has had plenty of big wins for the numbers he has.

Western Fold is hardy- he’s been on the go for ages. Keeps the trainers’ championship interesting.

Went for Kappa Jy Pyke in the end though I do like Oscar’s Brother Ruby- he finished off very well at Cheltenham.

Thanks Wilts and Ruby. He’s powerful alright, a fair beast.
Was getting excited about Larzac but he found nothing, needs either an extra half mile at least, or a wind op- not sure which.
(Or he’s just no good, but he certainly travelled like he might be in the mix)
    Pleased for Kalix’s jockey :good:

Trainer seems keen on Rakki in the 3.05 so added him.

    Tues
    2.30 Turnupdvolume
3.05 Powerful (targeted at this I think)
3.40 Larzac (good money after bad for me)
4.15 Too Bossy For Us ew (course winner)
4.15 Free Spirit ew (no chance but I like him)
4.50 can’t decide. Kitz probably just wins and could even be a gold cup horse next year, but is there going to be Punchestown result weirdness? Kappa Jy Pyke maybe. Interested to see July Flower over the trip as 3rd in French champion hurdle
    5.25 Dunno. Tacograph? Up Jody!!
6.05 Majborough to boss it, Walsh to secretly give the two fingers to his soon to be ex employers
6.35 Mr Ragstone- stable jockey bookings took noticeably longer to appear than the other bumper suggesting golden boy’s choice was harder here. Up Jody!!!
