Thanks very much, Silk, for the link to the excellent Steve Haskins article in The Bloodhorse. Highly recommended. Also great to see the super enthusiastic comments of the U.S. viewers of Royal Ascot.

I do believe that was Keats, not Shelley.

Indeed, Gladiateur, an English graduate blushes.

But it was a long, long time ago, alas!

I often look on Chapman’s works and despair.

Well, Gladiateur, even university educated PBS didn’t know his Balboa from his Cortez!

Seriously, though, this was shocking stuff. If they’re going to comment on names, they should do some elementary homework first.

Not sure, but I don’t think there’s any requirement to win. I think the barrier trials are run to provide schooling and to promote fitness. Any fans of Australian racing on here to clarify?

Barrier trials in Australia are not counted as actual races. See this link http://www.horseracingaustralia.hl.com.au/ultimate/trials.htm especially the penultimate paragraph beginning ‘In barrier trials neither horse nor rider are required to be fair dinkum.’ :yahoo: So winning a barrier trial is not the same as winning a race.

Terrakova won easily and looks a lovely middle distance filly for next year. :good:

Earlier on the card Andre Fabre’s Aim True, Galileo x Lahinch, won his debut from, among others, his stablemate, Coolmore’s Jeux (Dansili x Gagnoa). Both of these were April foals and could be expected to progress nicely next year.

What do you all think of Jack Hobbs as a future outcross stallion for all those Northern Dancer mares? Halling no sire of sires so far, but Jack maybe, maybe…. Coolmore of course won’t use him, but that is a pity. Or would there be far too much stamina on both sides for fashion?

In another vein, why does John Gosden think JH is somewhat fragile? Admittedly, I’ve only seen him on TV, but he looked a fine stamp of a beast to me. Yes, needs more filling out – and then watch!

I’ve just joined after lurking for a while. Just want to post my thanks to Norrette and to all of you posters for this wonderful thread. It’s been a kind of ‘Who do you think you are’ in a racing context. I love the fact that the final proof came via the British Library and that Steve Caution was almost all the way there beforehand. All the best to you Norrette if you do join the ranks of owners in the future.
