What do you all think of Jack Hobbs as a future outcross stallion for all those Northern Dancer mares? Halling no sire of sires so far, but Jack maybe, maybe…. Coolmore of course won’t use him, but that is a pity. Or would there be far too much stamina on both sides for fashion?

In another vein, why does John Gosden think JH is somewhat fragile? Admittedly, I’ve only seen him on TV, but he looked a fine stamp of a beast to me. Yes, needs more filling out – and then watch!

Halling is a bit of a slow burner. You need plenty of patience with most of his stock, then they go on improving through ages four and five – and even beyond in the case of Cavalryman!

I suppose his sons don’t appeal that much commercially as most of their stock won’t threaten at two and would probably suit the St Leger more than the other Classics. Placing in the Derby is a good path to National Hunt stallion success though. Mr Combustible and Golan are doing pretty nicely with their jumps horses to name a couple of current ones.
