So where is your evidence it wouldn’t happen?

Really? Is that the best you can do?

What’s the best you can do to support your view? Ask a few mates?

Punters are increasingly betting on football where results can be decided on the whim of questionable refereeing decisions.

Football teams don’t lose the match if players commit a bad foul or blatantly dive to get a penalty. They get punished by means of booking, sending off or a penalty may be given.

On your logic for horse racing why would you not want a football team disqualfied and automatically lose the match if one of their players cheated?

If that did occur there would be a swift reversal on betting on football matches and an open door for corruption as there would be in horse racing, what better way to get a horse beat than break whip rules

Think some of you need to get real, maybe we should recall Pinza from his exile for a bit of sense on the issue. Oh I nearly forgot he got banned for that didn’t he?

Yes, it’s called common sense and logic.

So you have no evidence to support your claim.

… just see punters stop betting on the sport in their droves.

Is there any evidence to support that hypothesis?

Imagine a sport where I can gain an unfair advantage by breaking the rules, where millions in prize money and breeding values are at stake and where I can escape with a small fine and ban, the value of which pale beside the value of the prize I have won, against the rules, beating a competitor who has competed fairly.

    Have you ever watched football?

Were you totally outraged and shocked by O’Briens riding during the live race cormack?

Personally the penalty O’Brien received for his "offence" was far too severe in my opinion as it was.

People will not bet to a great extent on a sport where stewards would be counting whip strokes, pontificating about what was a whip stroke and what wasn’t, was he just on the limit or one over. Horses disqualified on the whim of questionable stewards would just see punters stop betting on the sport in their droves.

It’s just not practical nor would disqualification fit the "crime".

Fitzgerald has done well this week.

Is he related to Richard Fitzgerald CEO of RMG?

Great for ATR viewers but it is staggering to think that Channel 4 actually thought it was a better idea to sign up Bryce and Fitzgerald.

Could you imagine Chapman going about the Royal Ascot paddock like he does at Windsor? It would be fecking awful.

While agreeing about Fitzgerald, who is dire (shame Francome didn’t stay on) Gina Bryce, while lacking something in racing knowledge is actually a very good presenter, ideal for some of the items they do.

A full 3.1 seconds faster than standard on the round course, in a course record time… and still it is "good" ground.

It is good-firm if not firm Eddie, the times tell you that.

If your assertion is correct that it could be firm then I’m sure you would agree that it is perfectly safe ground for flat racing :?:

However though Stickels watered when he shouldn’t have he has been totally honest when describing the ground unlike Prosser.

You would expect quality animals to be running fast times on good to firm ground, that’s what they should be running on.

Timeform called the ground as good-firm yesterday.

Think Stickels and The Blues Brother know best

    Two track records…
Do you still think it is good ground Eddie?

The ground is good to firm and good on the round course Gingertipster, do try and keep up

The going stick readings tell you that, Stickels is spot on with his description of the going even if you and Timeform aren’t. Nothing wrong with it for flat racing is there? Or are you blaming the two deaths yesterday on the going again?

Incidentally Steve Mellish has just said there was a tail wind yesterday like Morrison. Who said it was a headwind Gingertipster?

I wasn’t aware of any Eddie. If so then yes, it would’ve been a factor to consider and may be ground conditions are not as firm as times suggest.

EDIT: RUK says there was indeed a fairly strong head wind.

Morrison said there was a tail wind and that it was a factor in the fast times.

You wouldn’t believe it would you, the guy was stood on the track when he said it. I did have my doubts when he said it when I caught a glimpse of a flag. The guys a bluffer, said be wary of the fav in the Coventry, 6 out of the last 10 have been beaten he said.

Don’t know how some of them get jobs.

Any chance Chris Stickels could have an apology from those who said he should not have watered?

Had he not watered the ground today would’ve been HARD, with wholesale non-runners. It’s a good job yout aren’t Clerk Of Ascot.

Time 1.07 seconds faster than standard.

That said, Stickels should himself apologise for putting punters away. Ground conditions are at least good-firm if not firm. As predicted, for the second year running conditions are much firmer than advertised.

How would it have been hard? They have to water to produce good to firm

Shouldn’t water before all that rain, wait till nearer the time and water if required. Straight track is always quicker than the round track. Why not produce good to firm and water to maintain? Not rocket science Gingertipster

Dettori now joining C4 for Royal Ascot and beyond

It smacks of panic, can’t see how it can possibly work while Frankie is still riding. He should be concentrating 100% on the horses he is riding.

How embarrassing was that charades on the Morning Line?

The watering directive states to produce good to firm ground, that’s not been done. The round course should not have been watered, top of the ground horses on the first day have been compromised by it with the weather that we’ve had. Horses wanting cut should have been disadvantaged.

It’s just not fair, the ground should not be watered to produce "perfect" ground it should be fast ground.
Do they produce "perfect" ground when it rains a lot?

Two of those 5 deaths came in bumpers Eddie, no "jump" involved. Some "relevence" surely?

    You cannot be serious!

That 2 horses aged 6 and 7 making their debuts (that should tell you something) in bumpers at a minor Irish jumps meeting should have any bearing on top class flat racing at top flat tracks in Britain

On their long awaited debut at the royal meeting on Tuesday ruk will interrupt ascot to show bags racing from thirsk!
Wouldn’t it be better if they didn’t show the away meetings on big days until the racing review?

No it wouldn’t, you can’t have been listening to the so called "expert" pundits in the studio both yesterday and today if you’d prefer to listen to them rather than live action. They’ve been absolutely diabolical.
