Please find attached a picture of the bend in question with the rather large H which denotes the hurdle course.
Where is the big C that denotes the chase course?
Surely racing can afford a few cones with all the money they’re making from 48 hour decs? The 2.55 at Plumpton allowed to clash with 3.05 at Kempton, how useless are these guys?
Paul Struthers stated they employed someone who’s responsibility was to avoid race clashes during the week, anytime he’s required feck all happens. Two points – first a field of conditional jockeys managed to steer a correct course for two circuits on Friday.
Second, in common with the other jockeys in the race in question, Geraghty spent three or four minutes circling round at the start, which for a 2M hurdle is precisely at the point at which he subsequently took the wrong course.
AP
It is usually the leader who goes the wrong way first so if the conditional on the leader goes the right way it’s likely the others will follow, notice a couple of the others nearly follow Geraghty.
Unfortunately everyone is vulnerable to a lapse of concentration at times no matter how experienced but that’s no good to punters and as has been said before the whole situation could have been avoided by a few traffic cones. On Friday and not an isolated case 3 British meetings, 2 jumps and 1 flat yet the 15 min gap between races was after the flat race with a 10 min gap after each jumps race, why?
All that’s needed is a few traffic cones, obviously too much trouble for Wetherby though.
After two or three similar errors earlier this year some tracks started putting cones down and others didn’t.
Why not a simple instruction from the useless BHA to all tracks to put cones down where appropriate? No one has a problem with those rules Pompete but surely they have to be administered before the tapes go up and he starts the race not during the race itself?
At what time during the race did he decide to withdraw the horse? What if the horse started after that?
As I say their speaker system would have made interesting listening, no wonder they don’t let the public hear what goes on.
The public weren’t even informed the horse had been withdrawn till well after the race, even ATR thought it was a runner.
As I say a farce allowed by the BHA.
If a horse is to be withdrawn, the jockey should be told to dismount and the horse led away, not the assistant starter allowed to whip furiously behind the horse to get him going during the race.Another BHA farce in the 2.20 at Stratford with Tancredi declared a withdrawn horse despite the rider vigoursly riding it when the tapes went up and the assistant starter furiously whipping behind it.
Since when have horses been allowed to be withdrawn retrospectively?
What if it started 20? 50? 100 lengths behind the others would it be still be declared a non runner?
The general public were also unaware of this farcical decision till well after the race despite the speaker system apparently being in action, think it would have made interesting listening.
An utter farce.Well she did get a 28 day ban for it and although she is a lovely looking lass I don’t think even her staunchest friends would put Vicky Fahey up as a quality pilot.
It’s a shame Emma Spencer didn’t keep doing it, she was easily better than all the current bunch.Nothing wrong with the ride that Vikki Cartmel gave to the horse – only thing I’d have complaints with is her race riding fitness but given it’s an amateur riders race the only – she doesn’t get many rides as the trainer said so it’s hard to keep the fitness up. Aside from backing messrs Brotherton, Fahey, Ellison et al you’re taking ability on trust.

Stalls discipline
Pace discipline
Shape discipline – not finding trouble in running
Balance in the saddle
Hands, heels and whip in stride-pattern

I would disagree with most of that, they have a lot less runners to put in the stalls per race, racing most of the time on similar tracks.
As for the pace discipline, you only have to go back to this years American triple crown to shoot that up in flames.
Why do American jockeys always leave a gap you could get a double decker bus through on the rails? As for their use of the whip, you can tell they have no whip rules, there’s one chap called Jesse something, can’t remember his surname. Jesse James would be more appropriate.
Despite the American jocks consistent misuse of the whip, our jockeys are far stronger in a finish.
Give me the variety of our racing any day and of course you have all the drugs there.I notice the silks are on the other side of the runners now, should have had the numbers on the left hand side of the silks not the right imo like on the Betfair cards

Disgraceful coverage tonight, has anyone seen it? There was an objection and stewards for 15 mins after the 6.10 but not a mention nevermind a replay of the race. Juvenile competitions throughout the evening, the only surprise is they haven’t used Chapman for the presenting, he would be ideal.
A lot of rubbish spoken about self certification, here’s all you need to know,

It’s hard to disagree with any of it, racings rulers have a lot to answer for in my view

Obviously an 8 race card would be ideal if all the races were quality but that’s unlikely to occur for many meetings a season in our lifetime under the present funding system.
I can’t see much difference having 8 crap races on a card as opposed to 6 crap ones. Personally I’d sooner see a crap horse race rather than any football match.
Rather than just having one meeting a night why not have two meetings one night and have the other night off?
I’ve heard one or two RUK presenters moaning about 8 race cards whatever the quality, they should be grateful they’re very well paid to go racing, after all it’s not compulsory.I don’t know whether we should have any sympathy for the BHA, who the bloody hell is supposed to be running the show?
Two dedicated racing channels, great crowds, a lot of money bet on the sport and we’re still racing for piss poor prize money, who’s getting all the money? How much does racing receive from RUK?
Woodbine have peanuts bet on a race yet even their basic races are run for 20 or 30 grand.
There’s something seriously wrong with the way the sport is run in this country. It’s for the benefit of the jockeys only; not the TV viewers, or anyone else.
I must be naive, when hearing the system was to be introduced on a regular basis I thought it would be used for the benefit of racegoers and television viewers as well.
After all, how many false/farcical starts have been down to lack of communication between the starter and the jockeys? few? any? who knows? I’ve not heard many complaints though from jockeys left etc that they couldn’t hear the starter as a reason.
Would have been interesting too hear what the starter said to the jockey who was vigourly trying to start his horse at Worcester a few weeks ago when the tapes went up only to be left and declared withdrawn after the race, if it happens in the future we still wont hear what’s said.
As for the foul language, only the starter has a microphone as far as I know, the BBC/C4 would be responsible for the others.Since Huntingdons meeting last Tuesday you may have noticed a starter speaker system in use at the start of National Hunt races.
As you know there has been many a farcical start in National Hunt races over the years and this has been introduced to avoid any confusion as to what is said by the starter.
Those in the stands or watching on TV previously did not know what had been said or instructed by the starter as they only had the picture.
Has everyone noticed the difference?
