Consistently informative and entertaining. By far and away the best live broadcasting on any racing programme. It doesn’t always work, nothing does but in general Chapman has a way of getting the racing fraternity to open up and talk in a way that your ordinary bod can appreciate.
Great for ATR viewers but it is staggering to think that Channel 4 actually thought it was a better idea to sign up Bryce and Fitzgerald.
June 17, 2014 at 10:39 #482657Stilvi , I am as always loathe to disagree with you ….but only the dross channel could and would put up with his antics
Stay dross free and ease your mind from the bookies clutter !!!
imo
June 17, 2014 at 10:47 #482659Not my cup of tea I’m afraid, find him rude and intrusive.
June 17, 2014 at 13:18 #482675Chapman is very much the "Marmite" of current racing presenters. Personally, I really enjoy his style: knowledgeable but not at all pretentious or condescending. He should be the main presenter on Channel 4, not the snooty twins.

Could you imagine Chapman going about the Royal Ascot paddock like he does at Windsor? It would be fecking awful.
While agreeing about Fitzgerald, who is dire (shame Francome didn’t stay on) Gina Bryce, while lacking something in racing knowledge is actually a very good presenter, ideal for some of the items they do.

My post was specifically referring to Windsor but I don’t have much doubt that Chapman would have no problem adapting to the different surroundings.
Some might argue what you have now is awful. Do you prefer the extremely wooden style of interviewing where almost everyone in the sport are treated as if they are royalty? That is part of reason why racing only has very a limited appeal.
June 19, 2014 at 18:56 #483119Stilvi ,,,,Chapman has a niche audience , as soon as he is marginalised,. thats very soon in my opinion , he will just go away quietly
Racing does not really warrant intrusive narks like him , like it or not , racing is in a time warp , the old geezers rule , sadly its very unlikely they do/or have/ will ever appreciate his talent ….whatever that is

Still for now he is keeping you happy , enjoy as it will not last long ,,,,his appearances and role will diminish in a rapid fashion
imo
June 21, 2014 at 10:56 #483497Cant think of a broadcaster better suited to a Channel 4 fightback than Matt Chapman.
He has the rare talent of being able to level with Joe Soap
and
get Racing insiders to drop their guard and communicate on a more meaningful level.
The latter can be incredibly difficult, Chapman has the racing brain to generally pull it off.
Watch how he gets Bolger to drop the shoulders and hold forth on subjects that generally provoke ire.

June 28, 2014 at 21:34 #484261If Matt Chapman is Marmite then I would have it on my toast every Saturday afternoon.
If not always 100% professional then at least he keeps me watching and not switching over to Coronation Street between races.
June 29, 2014 at 10:40 #484301His style is a bit grating sometimes, but I admire how Chapman always does so much research. He seems to know at least some of the form for pretty much every dog race, American race or UK race he covers on ATR and Coral TV.
I respect his professionalism and commitment.
June 30, 2014 at 13:48 #484394Quite simply the most entertaining and informative presenter on any racing channel. Also as a former jockey agent has great knowledge how racing works. Yesterday’s Sunday forum was just the tops. If you don’t like him turn to the the oh so boring and cliched other channels. He’s not voted the best broadcaster most years for nothing.

In fact, he’s not voted the best broadcaster most years at all.
He won the Peter O’Sullevan Broadcaster of the Year once in 2010. Nick Luck has won the same award five times.

Cmon Stilvi …surely you cannot let this go …your demi god Chapman , is just not the best (could be the worst )
I await your comments with interest !!!!

That’s only because he sends the panel his patented cure for insomnia shortly before votes are cast.
