French Racing Expert on ATR Liz Price recommends the second favourite each way for the race. He is about 5/2 for the race, good old Liz giving the value again there
Each Way at 5/2? Absolutely cracking bet! I better get down the bookies and lump on! I can not believe people get paid for advice like that.
I know I said in the thread previously that Zawraq’s trip was 8-10f but I’ve backed him at 8/1 and I think he’s my best hope having backed Ol Man River at 20/1 and Sir Isaac Newton at 25/1.
On the racing post app, on the live stream after the race it said he’s been ruled out of the derby, so probably Irish Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes.
Taking a look at the placed horses Monbeg Dude, Alvorada and Royale Knight (weights and distances) I would not be surprised if Many Clouds is rated the equal or almost equal to Coneygree. The best Grand National performance in decades. Although there’s a chance he’ll need very soft ground to win a Gold Cup to blunt other’s speed; suspect he just had an off day in the Gold Cup, showed enough speed in the BetBright against Dynaste and Smad Place to think should’ve been more effective in the Blue Riband.
I agree, they did say when they were cooling him down that the only time that he hasn’t been needed to be cooled down so fast was in the gold cup, so maybe he had an off day then, but it was a performance carrying 11st9lbs, the highest ever weight since red rum? It shows that a touch of class can win this race now even if carrying a so called hefty weight. I would never have picked Many Clouds in 100 runnings purely because of the weight he was carrying, but I won’t discount it as easily next time thats for sure! I also think this grand national winner has it in him to win another race!
I took the 9/4 about Zawraq for Leopardstown, considering the stable is in fine form I’m fairly confident, I had £10 about Sir Isaac Newton for the derby before Zawraq took his scalp last season and I’m confident that he will confirm his class here. Pat Smullen missed a ride on Pale Mimosa in a group 1(Prix Royal Oak in France) to ride in the race on Zawraq so he must think of him highly. I would not be taking any odds for him for the derby though. 8-10f looks like his trip.
It will be interesting Sunday, with JFK being a certainty, in a rather ridiculous 3 runner group 3.
I’ve had £2 on the machine about Zarkar just incase, because he is impeccably bred, being by Galileo out of Zarkava.
