Some years I’ve not minded it as a stopgap between Goodwood and York but this years event was a bit smelly. The last race was decent and the 3 year old 6f race had me intrigued but the rest was bland.
I still don’t get the point of the racing league and the cards are so so average so I rarely come down on one to back. I can’t see it lasting much longer as I don’t think it has enough pull.
Shergar Cup could do with a little je nais se quois but then again why would they change much when they get good crowds every year.

Nice one Cecil

Royal Dubai unsurprisingly looked to improve last time out under the tutelage of Owen Burrows for the first time. Can he back it up in a slightly better race?. I hope so. Haatem should enjoy stepping back up in trip but I didn’t think the Royal Ascot race was much cop. Detain blew out completely that week, too bad to be true surely but has to answer that question.
Royal Dubai 7/2Never Let Go was impressive at Royal Ascot, this is a step up in grade and into all age conditions. I think she brings the best form though. 9/2

430 – Urban Lion
Haydock
225 – Never Let Go NAP
300 – Royal DubaiRes:
Cur 325 – Bucanero Fuerte
Cur 435 – Sarahmae
Cur 505 – Mint ManWith you on Spirited Style and Princess Child Darren. Good luck.
I almost went for Matilda but was a little put off by Graffard saying she will probably need further in time. Good race though. I like Donnacha’s in the 450. Balantina.
Also wasn’t sure on the Diane form so backed Al Uqda in the 131.I don’t understand why Tom Eaves has come down the centre of the track, the worst place you could possibly be.
Cheers, thanks to Burrows too, his post race comments after her listed win gave me the hots for this one.

230 – Waardah
305 – Hammer The Hammer
Newmarket
310 – Karmology NAPRes:
Thirsk 405 – Desert Falcon
Good 155 – Sam HawkensHAMMER THE HAMMER 11/2. Low numbers had the best draw in todays sprint and there should be just about similar enough conditions heading into this race. Selection ran well at Ascot over 5f but this is his trip, looks a group horse to me.
Wouldn’t mind Goodie Two Shoes winning as have followed her in a few times but I’ve been lured in by WAARDAH here stepping up from 10f. That was in a listed race here and she needs cut in the ground so hopefully it doesn’t dry out too much. 7/1
Good spot. Since joining Appleby from the Cox yard.

Shagraan won the 3 year old sprint here last year and has been progressive since. Lat two runs at listed/group 3 level have hiked him in the weights but hopefully he is just that much better. Barring one end of season slightly poor run at Doncaster last year he has looked a threat in every race since joining the Cox yard. 8/1
Coeur D’or probably would have finished closer to re-opposing winner last time at The Curragh but for interference 2f out which delayed his effort from the rear. Looks in good nick this year and likes Galway, conditions fine, Hayes back aboard. 9/1 5 places
Couldn’t split the two TBT runners for Ed Walker, both of whom won last time with their respective jockeys on board. I’ll take both for a bit of interest, drawn 5+6 too, which is nice. 11/2 and 12/1 4 places bigger elsewhere 3 places.
