its bad enough that i have made such a basic error in my files but for it to finish 4th in a 12 runner race at big odds simply rubs salt in the wounds, chipmunk
(thats what happens when you spend 14 hours solid writing notes) by the time you get to (w) windsor warwick, etc mistakes are made, chipmunk
DULY ADMONISHED………hangs head in shamethe going was soft and that was my only reason for deserting ramonti (had a couple of nice wins so it owes me nothing) but i have it as a horse to be on if the going is good (7 wins from 7).you live and learn, chipmunk
yes grayson it did, i had a large bet at 200/1 (it was somthing ridiculous like 4 stone out of the handicap) my thinking was that this horse was virtually unbeatable at alnwick racecourse (my second biggest win was on him at 7/2 when i was 14!!! 6 weeks pocket money) the track at alnwick has a long left handed climb to the finish and i could imagine him running on through the fading field to pinch a place………sadly not but it is still one of my favourite horses, chipmunk
NB it was the only time in my betting experience i have seen fear in a bookies face…..loli thought that too sailing shoes but i think it had valid excuses on the 3 occasions it has run this year last time was over a mile and a half (too short) and its other 2 runs were on good to firm (never won on anything as firm as that) the last time it ran in a race that had things to suit it won, that devil on my shoulder is telling me to double my stakes……no no no, ha ha chipmunk
cant believe no-one else has nominated notnowcatos performance in the eclipse, ok it wasnt a wide margin impressive win but ryan moore outthought some of the best jockeys and horses. the fact i had a wedge on it helps too. even now i simply find it astounding in a race worth so much and with the participants representing such big stables no one else seemed to walk the course!!!. mind you i wasnt complaining (saying that when he charged across the track on the home turn i was screaming at the tv and calling him allsorts) 5 minutes later i was calling him a genius, chipmunk
last chance today till the next big meeting,
2.00 ZASKAR 106 / POLYGRAPH 104
2.35 HAWRIDGE PRINCE 131 / DISTINCTION 129
3.10 BEFORE YOU GO 119 / MUSTAJED 118
3.45 HONALULU 142 / ASK 139
4.20 BENBAUM 149 / AL QASI 143
4.55 PERSIAN EXPRESS 122 / PENTACOST 116,chipmunk4/6 on friday
5/6 on saturday……………..we are getting there, chipmunki would like to be included, as there are possibly questions about point-to-point can we have some on west percy and milvain or ratcheugh please, chipmunk……………the answer is TARTEVIE……….i hope
hexham closing would be a bodyblow to me, it epitimises what jump racing is about, small track / friendly people / bag of carrots for every winner / helpful staff etc etc to me going to the likes of cheltenham -ascot – liverpool etc leaves me cold as in my experience you are crammed in like sheep then ripped off at every turn. i realise i may upset some people but as a geordie i speak as i find and give me a northern gaff track every time, chipmunk
4/6……..close but no cigar,at least i broke even on the win stake,
2.00 PERFECT STAR 123 / VENTURA 121
2.35 SHARP NEPHEW 128 / EMMROOZ 124
3.10 PROVISIO 137 / SAOIRSE ABU 136
3.40 DOCOFTHEBAY 130 / LOVELACE 129
4.20 DARJINA 150 / RAMONTI 147
4.55 RAHIYAH 128 / DIAMOND DIVA 126.as a one off i agree it has to be crisp………….as an armchair jockey i still say that if pitman hadnt hit crisp as they reached the elbow it would have won. if you watch, just as pitman gives it a slap its tail flashes as if to say, what more do you want mate. im not having a go at pitman if i were leading at the elbow and could hear somthing approaching i would have done the same but like many others i watch it now WILLING crisp to hang on, halcyon days, chipmunk
interesting thread this one (as usual), with regard to horses falling i have on numerous occasions heard a hearty cheer from those bookie chaps when a fancied horse falls………shame on them. as far as sportsmanship is concerned in this pc mad world an old adage springs to mind………IF WINNING ISNT IMPORTANT WHY BOTHER KEEPING SCORE,chipmunk
mine would be to be at ayr in the mid seventies for the scottise national, we both backed ASTRAL CHARMER at 66/1 and watched it at home as it proceded to lead from the start, try to run out then won. my father is no longer with us but id love to go back and watch it with him just once, chipmunk
nailed on the line but still a pick up on wednesday, chipmunk
to put things into a little bit of perspective, spare a thought the owner of MUQADAM it cost 300,000 as a yearling and after 5 runs is still a maiden, been tried in a visor, and got beat again today in a race worth less than 3 grand!!! 80 quid sounds positively cheap, chipmunk
never mind rules 1-5 my father summed racing up for me when i was 12-13 year old, he took me into ladbrokes and asked me how many counters there were for putting bets on and how many for paying out? the answer was 3 for betting 1 for paying out…………….lesson learnt nuff said, chipmunk
anna pavlova…………..my placepot was down (4/6) but anna saves the day, chipmunk
