Zarakava,
Marksmanship can still go for the Gallinule like Jan Vermeer last year.
Anyone know a link to watch the big French race today?
Prix Greffulhe at Saint Cloud at the weekend; Vadamar, Maxios and Pour Moi all running.
Good news is that Vadamar’s connections are running a pacemaker in the shape of Dildar which will suit all 3 horses I have mentioned above.
A much improved performance is expected from Maxios according to his connections, they are quoted as saying he has been impressing since his seasonal debut.
I wonder if Pour Moi won this well would he then become Coolmore’s number 1 for Epsom, stretching it I know! However, he should enjoy the likely much stronger pace than last time.
Imperial,
this is actually one of the strongest trends race you can find. Last year Bluesea Cracker was one of only two who hit all the trends I use.
This year it looks like Saddlers Storm and Whatuthink have the strongest claims based on trends. I much prefer the latter as I don’t think the former will appreciate the likely fast ground. He’s also in pretty poor form. Where as Whatuthink’s last run was very eye catching.
I think he’s done extremely well to be even running in this considering the disaster he had at Aintree last year when he very nearly had his head kicked off. Would be a fairytale if he won.
Was a very good staying hurdler and I think there is more to come in his chasing career. I took some of the 20s WH were offering this morning.
The Last Derby is also a strong trends pick. The main trend he falls down on is not having run in the past 50 days.
I think Iris De Balme was 26 pounds out of the handicap when he won!
I backed No Panic at 66s yesterday with PP – paying first 5 places.
I topped it up at lunchtime with Uncle Joes at 100s – first 4 places. Both each way. I know he is miles out of the handicap but I think he might nick a place like last year.
However, agree with BB, what’s not to like about Merigo!
I saw the race, they race at a crawl which led to a sprint finish.
Would not have suited Maxios or Pour Moi – Lingfield Derby Trial next for both of them?
Why do you think it’s a joke thread Rich?
Are you a sofa salesman ?
Totally agree, first class stuff. Had a fantastic afternoon watching the racing.
The sooner they are given Cheltenham the better.
Looks like Sunday is going to give us the first real pointers to the Derby this year, what with the Ballysax and the French race.
I noticed Maxios has been nibbled at in the markets for the Derby. I wonder is it anything to do with the same stable’s Genzy making a very slick debut at Saint Cloud at the end of last month, with the French Derby being mentioned as a possible target for him.
Just guessing (wishful thinking!) that if he (Genzy) wins his next race Jonathan Pease might want to keep Genzy and Maxios apart (I acknowledge they are in different ownership).
That’s really disappointing about Pour Moi. I can’t believe they got that wrong and then didn’t correct their mistake.
Maybe he will still come over. However, a lot would depend on how Ballydoyle’s contenders shape up.
Any idea on when we will see Pour Moi out ? I was a bit disappointed he has not been entered in the Dante. Maybe that’s an indication that he is pretty low down the pecking order at Ballydoyle or maybe something is wrong ?
Given his breeding I would have thought Maxios would be bettered suited running over the 12 furlongs of the Derby rather than the 10.5 furlongs of the French Derby.
Was impressed with the winner, Best Hello. That was a smashing debut performance. He won that easy and Apache was never going to get near him.
It’ll be interesting to see how Best Hello gets on in his next race. I bet his trainer is excited.
Dermot Weld has entered Notable Graduate in the 4.30 at the Curragh on Sunday (sorry I called him Notable Guest in my initial post on this thread).
It’s a maiden over 1m 2f. He’s not entered in the Derby yet but I am very hopeful he’ll prove to be top class on the basis of his very encouraging debut and the fact he is half brother to Refuse to Bend and Media Puzzle.
Ruby,
I think you are being a little unfair on John Oxx. I maybe wrong but based on the fact that the Aga Khan spends a fair amount of time (Chantilly) in France, it is fair to say that he probably keeps his best prospects in that country.
Maybe John Oxx doesn’t get the perceived best of his (Aga Khan;s) 2 year olds, maybe he gets what is perceived as the B team. I could be wrong.
I too rate Jim Bolger highly and have great time for him
BB
Surely you are winding me up Ruby?
John Oxx is a fantastic trainer, his handling of the likes of Sea The Stars, Azamour and Sinndar was exemplary.
John Oxx runs a Derby entrant in the 5.05 at the Curragh this afternoon – Adilapour.
The race is a 7f handicap. Entering him in a handicap would indicate Oxx has no Classic pretensions with him.
February 6, 2011 at 12:03 in reply to: NH Season 2010/11 – can it get any more depressing?!! #339229Jonibake,
I agree with you. Due to the number of meetings being abandoned I feel as if the season just hasn’t built up any momentum.
Today was another sickener.
Hopefully, we will have a good, early spring.
I love having an ante post punt on the Derby.
So far I have backed;
Adilapour at big prices on BF. He really impressed me when winning first time out at Gowran Park. I just wonder why they didn’t run him again. I acknowledge John Oxx is very patient with his two year olds.
French Navy – won his first 3 starts in France before running a shocker when beaten by Roderick O’Connor on his last race. I put my bet on before that race! He just wouldn’t settle and I am hoping it was a one off. He’s with Godolphin now.
Notable Guest – was impressed with his one and only run when he came second to a subsequent listed winner at Leopardstown at the end of October. He is a half brother to Refuse To Bend and also Media Puzzle. Owned by the Moyglare Stud, he is in the very capable hands of Dermot Weld. I’m hoping that he has a very, very bright future over middle distances, his debut gives me plenty of encouragement. Got him at 250+ on BF.
Jonathan Pease has a horse called Maxios who is a Monsun half brother to Bago. He has a Derby entry but not sure he will go down that route. If he does then this unbeaten, Group 3 winner will be very interesting. Trainer reckons he is a Group 1 horse. Already backed him for the Arc on BF!
Anyone intending to go to Epsom this June ?
