So you are not the same Triptych from Harlow,Essex who was on the BBC 606 Forum and whom I met at Ascot a few years back ?
New Approach was a brilliant racehorse and only injury prevented him from winning even more races as a 3 year old,and was Champion 2 and 3 year old..the first horse to achieve that since Reference Point in 1987,whilst he has sired a brilliant Champion already in Dawn Approach.
I saw Triptych run in the late 80s also when Dancing Brave and Nashwan were my particular favourites, and I was present for the Derby’s and the famous 1986 Prix De L’Arc de Triomphe race also, where I won a small fortune backing "The Brave" at 5/2.
Great memories as always !
Kauto Star is not the best chaser seen in the past 40 years. His own stablemate,Denman, proved superior three times out of the four they met and it would have been all four but for suffering from his debiliating heart problem.
Long Run also beat him three times out of their five meetings, and, I fully expect Long Run to be fitter for this years race than he was for last years, which was seen as a pipe-opener for both King George and Gold Cup though he was unable to match his performances of the previous season.
The actual ground will be key as to who actually runs in the race, and, if it becomes a bog then it is a watching race only.
Sprinter Sacre wins it and may well become the best 2 mile chaser seen since Flyingbolt surpassing the likes of Master Minded and Moscow Flyer.
Well said both of you…..WFA races would have been meat and drink to him and he would have won them all by 20 lengths and more…..Wyldesyde…I used to watch Rodger Wylde when he played for my favourite team Sheffield Wednesday back in the 70s…no relation ?
Meanwhile,my 5 fav horses I have seen of all time would be as follows ..
NH…..Arkle,Flyingbolt,Bula,Istabraq,Crisp
Flat….Sea Bird II,Frankel,Dancing Brave,Shergar,New Approach
Luckily, amongst that NH list I have included the 2 best ever chasers,2 of the best ever hurdlers, and the greatest Grand National performer, albeit only in one Grand National.
The Flat has always been far harder to call.

As no further question forthcoming as yet I will throw one in…what was Nicky Henderson the first trainer to do since before the 2nd World War when saddling Binocular to win the Champion Hurdle in 2010 ?
