I saw this today and it was really horrible. The camera was on him for quite some time so it was very unpleasant to see.
I switched the racing off straight away, just did not have the heart for it.
After a wonderful day with Kauto winning yesterday, it has made me feel so sad. RIP Golden Silver.

Another reminder of how brave and courageous these beautiful animals are and yes it is nice to see information and a tribute, so often one is just left wondering. RIP.

Many thanks for the link Ten Plus. Will bookmark that.

So sad. RIP.

WYMOTT for me at 14/1
I thought Wymott ran a very respectable race in the end. Was he about 5th/6th?
Blackgold, thanks for posting this list. I don’t know of any of these horses but it is awful that so many have died.
RIP to every one of them.
How do you find out all this?
He was apparently going to spend the night at the equine vets at Lingfield – racing post reports that he had a good night and is ‘a lot happier now’….. great news.
Thanks Gem – that is good news.

You are far from alone in worrying about fallers AHF. We were lucky that ATR told us he was up ok (though obviously lame) as they so often tell us nothing. Many of us really care and want to know, even if it’s bad news. Though I call myself soft-hearted I do not cry (much) if a horse has to be put down, I am just glad it is not suffering any more pain and distress.
I am currently concerned about Kristoffersen in the 1.50 at Fontwell today. I don’t know what Jamie Moore thought he was doing, trying to keep going when the horse was so far behind and clearly exhausted under top weight in the sticky ground. IMO he should have been pulled up long before the fence where he fell.
Another point is that it’s not just slippery ground that causes falls. Their feet dig in more in soft ground so it doesn’t necessarily work that way. More falls are caused by excess speed and sketchy jumping, as in KC’s case. He’d gone off like a mad thing, practically bolting, and there wasn’t much AP could do about it without a fight which could have been more dangerous. The fall was almost inevitable as he started to tire and got unbalanced. He wasn’t up for slowing down, he was far too excited for that, and paid the price (though not, hopefully, the ultimate price, as so many horses do)

Thanks for all that information – I have so much to learn about racing.
I did not watch any racing today so don’t know about the horse Kristoffersen you are worrying about. It is a horrible feeling and plays on your mind. I sincerely hope he is ok.
Thanks so much for all your replies – you have reassured me and know I am not alone.
I remember as a kid crying during the westerns when the horses fell – my dad used to say "What about the men"?
Well I shall continue to try and watch, but it is also probably more likely they fall when the ground is all slippery.
Thanks for the link also.

Hope the horse was ok? They said he was just winded and maybe hurt his leg.
