The way the horse ran it looks like he needs to be ridden with cover until the last possible moment so he is not in front too long.
If I was his trainer (and of course Aidan knows best!) I would try him with one of those Australian nosebands with the piece of rubber attached to the top of the bridle running down the face to the bit. They help exert a little poll pressure which might aid control and steering.
Other than that I would say either he is green and becomes overwhelmed when in front or he is a bit of a rogue and needs to be ridden tactically. Whichever it is I would be very surprised to see him him by a large margin, if he wins at all.
Did they not pay four places Peru? That Derby turned out to have no form in it because some good horses ran way down the field but overall it was not a quality field bar Dylan Thomas
STill I was sad for the Pakenhams that they chose to keep Percy in training because they were small time owners and his form for stud after his 3yo year was really undermined by his 4yo form.
You must have been sad when they never got Hala Bek right again.
I think Big BUcks v Long Run 3 miles over fences would be more exciting…I would NOT be betting against the former I can tell you…before he returned to hurdles he looked to be shaping into an exciting 3 mile chaser and was unlucky in the Hennesy when he was very young and carrying a big weight and not stopping when he fell.
Mr NIcholls if you are reading this please send him over fences next autumn and then return to hurdles in time for CHelts if you want! PLEASE!!
I disagree in that I think the sire’s record of producing high quality runners is VERY relevant in terms of the stats trends amongst Derby winners.
Is there much stamina in WDs distaff line?
"I’d go further: I would not want to see Mr Johnson granted a trainer’s licence again – IF he is found to be guilty of de-nerving
Until then, any interim ban would be challenged in the courts as restraint of trade"
Where there is a charge for an offence of dishonesty, any restriction on practising the business related to the charge would likely be a legitimate action in pursuance of protecting the company/business and it’s customers. Why have the Company Directors Disqualification Orders?
I am not aware that his training business is a limited company but even in an unlimited business, allegations of dishonest business conduct are taken very seriously.
This is not just a welfare issue. Keiron’s was a charge of dishonest conduct hence the interim ban. I feel this precedent could be applied to Howard’s case but in any event the BHW has no concept of precedent hence the arbitrary administration of purported "justice"
I would say there are shades of fraud about the whole thing. He deliberately ran a horse with an injury (neurectomy’s are only used where a horse is permanently lame) knowing it was going to break down at some point. Is this not unfair to people betting money on the race?
If you knew anything about the legal system you would know an action on the dependence is NOT a presumption of guilt it merely secures the action. If the action upon which the interim decree is granted does not proceed for whatever reason then the penalty on the dependence is repaid and the party suffers no loss whatsoever.
When the Crown is ready to proceed to trial and the defence request a delay before proceedings there must be a hearing for the judge to decide whether or not to grant this. Did they have a hearing for this?
The presumption of innocence is only necessary in the
legal system not an extra-legal quasi judicial system
Why is there no action on the dependence then? He is simply allowed to keep going without any consequences until the trial?
Also persons charged with criminal offences do not get to choose when the trial or punishment takes place this is decided by the Crown.
That 3 month delay thing is a completely ruse to try and get the inevitable ban run over summer. Completely cheating the system, though the system is hopeless anyway – shows a complete lack of integrity and morality about all the parties
Let us put this into perspective. When a person is charged with a criminal offence do they get given "a three month delay to fully prepare their case"?
And are they allowed to simply just get on with their lives between charge and trial? At the very minimum they have to pay bail, and for serious offences they are not granted bail. IN terms of rules of racing this is a VERY serious offence compared to say injecting the horse with drugs.
He should have to pay some kind of large bond to the authority on the dependence of an action as at least this would not only make him realize he cannot get away with this behaviour but also that the authorities are taking the matter seriously.
To me it just looks like an old boys club where they make up the rules as they go along in a completely arbitrary and unfair manner. Nicky Henderson’s ban was ridiculous and deliberately made to look like he was being punished without having any negative practical effect on the guilty party whatsever.
Sorry rant over!
Kingmambo
El Condor Pasa Sadler´s Wells 134
King´s Best Lombard 131
Henrythenavigator 128
Dubai Destination 126And I am insulted you ignored my favourite Cape Cross colt 138!

To be fair I think STS was a bit of a freak for his sire and his talent had more to do with the exceptional Urban sea than any consistent ability to produce champions by the sire.
You did miss Mark of Esteem who produced Sir Percy and his highest rated horse is only 121. He seems to be the only one in recent memory who has no produced a horse over 125 before his derby winner.
Dylan Thomas should have won that year anyway if he had been ridden better.
Correct me if I find anything!
I completely agree, at least one year. They completely revoked an American trainers license for simply having one too many drugs violations and some needles found in his barn. And yet they let this contemptible man get away with de-nervating a horses feet so that it in effect runs until its foot falls off.
Never was a big fan but now I dislike man. here is the story

After the terrible press the National got surely the Racing Authorities need to take a tougher stance on welfare? I was appalled when I read some people thought they ought to not bypass the fences where the horses were stricken. I love racing but I love horses more and seeing Ornais just drop dead like that and left under a sheet of tarpaulin made me sick to my stomach.
Whip penalties need to be pecuniary, jockeys just beat the horses black and blue sometimes then get a 3 day ban which happens to fall when no important racing is on. And if it falls on important racing everyone complains it is unfair.
I used to compete in the sport of horse trials and I can tell you any rider who had a written or verbal warning for abuse of the whip was so mortified it very rarely happened. They had a two yellow card system which when together meant a red card and a several month ban, not sure the rules have ever been engaged
Unlucky for you then, I never put money on myself so the satisfaction is personal rather than financial in nature!
Do you know where I may watch a re run of the race please? I was looking a pictures of him on racingpost.com and I expected him to be chestnut but he’s a lovely bright red bay colt.
I similarly picked out Joshua tree (as my horse is called josh!) on his name alone before he even hit a racecourse and I was very happy when he turned out good enough to win a G2 and a G1!

Exact same policy with Little Josh before his big Handicap win…maybe I am on to something! not very mathematical though

I have one of each (UK/foreign) theoretically would I be able to still apply using the foreign one through the embassy?
have Ballydoyle still got Midas Touch then? He was a nice enough horse last season but never really top class at any distance.
Andy – I only read he was on Lasix and nothing about bute but I suppose if they are all at it then why disadvantage yourself. Completely inhuman running an injured horse on painkillers to be honest.
Apparently Lasix was originally created to help reduce bleeding but it acts as a diuretic which means the horses lose a lot a water just before the race when they are given the injections on the day. Apparently this is said to give them some kind of performance enhancing effect as well. Giving lasix in the run up can speed up withdrawal of non permitted drugs too, apparently.
They used to give the horses some kinds of steriods but luckily this was banned. i always thought Curlin looked way too muscled as a 4 year old and his trainer (Todd Pletcher i think?) was really into piling those things into his horses. As a rule I tend to think American horses are bulkier than European horses.
