If Royal And Regal does not run because of the firmish ground, who is going to make the pace?
Been through the form and all the rest are hold up horses or even dropped out in rear.
Doubt whether Honolulu or Geordieland are capable of making it.
Some of these pull hard in slowly run races.
Your thoughts…

Value Is EverythingMay 15, 2008 at 20:31 #163754Hmmm, just finished pricing up the race, not easy.
Like yourself Ginger, I think Royal and Regal is going to be withdrawn. With RandR in, I’ve got the fav at 2.3 without RaR I suppose it’ll be closer to 1.95.
The favourite made all to win a race in Ireland last year but as you say the majority of runners prefer to be held up/dropped out.
Unless there’s a dramatic change of tactics by one of the jockeys I could see Murtagh dictating the pace from the start – any other options?
May 15, 2008 at 21:21 #163764Honolulu does not look one to trust particularly on fast ground.
May 15, 2008 at 23:31 #163786Although Honolulu won that day, he did not look happy. Then again he hasn’t since. Backed him at 9/1 AP for the Leger, came right in to 13/8, proved a dog though.
Samuel looks more straight foreward than most, may be he’ll go on.
Do think R+R is worth a bet just in case it runs.

Value Is EverythingMay 15, 2008 at 23:57 #163789Anyone think Young Mick is a big price? If the field stayed at eight he’d be a cracking each way bet.
But then – what do I know?
May 16, 2008 at 08:19 #163825I fancy Young Mick myself. He’s won at Ascot on Gd/Fm and put up a good show in the Ebor last year so no problems with distance, course, or going. He’s 4.50 to be placed on BF at the moment. So even if R&R withdraws, he should still be around the 3.00 mark.
May 16, 2008 at 08:46 #163838I am very sweet on Honolulu

May 16, 2008 at 09:13 #163847I have been looking forward to this race all week, I fell in love with Young Mick in 2006 and he won a string of valuable races. I backed him in every one. He has been off the boil since but i think today could be his day!
Last week he didnt run too well but the trainer said he got caught wide, that he is bucking and squealling at home and Ryan Moore is booked for the ride.
I would love to see him win today as there are no O’brien big guns in the race (septimus and yeats) and i see the favourite as beatable. In saying that though I would be chuffed if Mick could run to a place.
My bet today is Young Mick 20/1 in an each way double with Tartan Bearer 7/1 in the derby (tartan will be doubled up in all my bets until the derby)
COME ON YOUNG MICK!!!May 16, 2008 at 13:28 #163896I quite like alfie flits @12-1 who was a decent enough third to yeats last time out and should like this surface better, also think royal and regal has a brilliant chance but dont see why he’s a negative in the betting and there may be more to that.
