One left wing commentator did have something to say about Iran: little Owen Jones of “The Guardian”, someone who can be relied on to be wrong about everything.

The sage of our times drew himself up to his full height and opined that the protestors have all been put up to it by America and Israel.

Of course they have, Owen. They couldn’t possibly have figured out they are living under a brutal, murderous Islamic dictatorship for themselves, could they?

Perhaps Owen might like to go to Iran and jolly well tell the protestors what’s what? He could then find out just how much someone with his opinions and personal characteristics is welcomed by the Iranian regime. Although I would avoid going up tall buildings if I were him.

This tournament is getting more interesting every day. I just ask myself how many percent of the ticket holders think a visit to the US or Mexico is safe nowadays?
Quite sure the UEFA thinks it’s around 100%.

Iran likely to be replaced by Iraq, with UAE taking their place and to play Bolivia in the play offs according to some.
But, I wouldn’t put it past the powers that be to include Russia playing under a neutral Asian flag as a direct replacement for Iran and leaving the play offs as is.
