Personally I couldn’t give a xxxx who won the jockey’s championship.

However it was generating some publicity for racing at the fag end of the flat season.

That is all finished now as Wolves stewards have effectively concluded the contest in favour of Hanagan by dishing out 7 days worth of bans to Hughes tonight.

What do people think of the 6 days careless Hughes got for his winning ride in the last?

Justified,or stewards settling old scores (Hughes boycotted the place in the past in protest at the bans he got there)

    Replay is on ATR site

I haven’t actually seen the race (I had a large punt on One Scoop Or Two & was unusually too nervous to actually watch it live) but I honestly don’t see how an incident can cost you a six day ban while not costing you the race.

The Wolves stewards have done themselves no favours. People are already critical enough of all weather racing & now in trying to win the Championship, Hughes has come to this ‘sandpit’ to ride some ‘dross’ & the stewards have killed an exciting end of season contest stone dead.

    Well done muppets.

I wonder if Hanagan will decline his rides during Hughes’ ban period a la John Francombe. Somehow I doubt it!

On the subject of the race, I saw a comment along the lines of Aviso’s handicap mark coming tumbling down very rapidly & I saw the name ‘Barney Curley’ Should’ve known really!

It as always is good for racing to see 2 Jockeys battle out the climax to a season in order to decide that years champion! It is quite apparent that whoever is involved in these battles,Cauthen/Eddery, Spencer/Sanders,Hughes/Hanagan that they can be relied upon to ride to their utmost ability on every mount and they become a great aid to prosperous punting on a daily basis, these guys put incredible demands on themselves to achieve Championship status and it is fascinating viewing watching them ride day and night only to have the whole show ruined by a bunch of Gin Slingin dodderers who apply the rules of racing with the inconsistency of a Weathermans forecast! Stewards are without doubt the weakest link in racings chain, a chain that is supposed to drive racing forward! Yeh right, its time the chain was replaced with something more modern and reliable!

Similar to Murtagh on SSB. Why Hughes would make that move in a race of this value, god knows!

It is a ban (6 days???) and no one would complain if the stewards were consistent. But they’re not and it’s getting pathetic. Making an example of Fallon last weekend was out of order and I don’t like the guy.

I can’t tell whether it’s getting more coverage that’s causing me to feel this way but I’m really feeling racing is going down the shitter big time.
