However amateur his presenting style is he knows what he is talking about. He has ridden at all the big meetings and won all the big races on good horses. Now he breeds racehorses. It’s a shame there is no place for someone who has actual experience of the whole point of the programme.
Carson for flat and Francome for NH seasons should have been retained by Channel 4. WTF does Rishi or Nick know about the tensions and tactics of coming round tattenham corner on a hose with a chance of winning the Derby?

October 26, 2012 at 10:30 #418348The connection between being a jockey and being wise must be the most tenuous in history (obviously excluding the one between being a jockey and having an ability to present television programmes).

If he knows what he is talking about how come he makes so many mistakes? It doesn’t matter how much you allegedly know, it is about conveying accuracy to the audience. In one of the races at Royal Ascot Willie stated that it was a race for fillies only. In actual fact only the two at the bottom of the card were fillies. Clare corrected him with the line "I can assure you Willie, there are most definitely colts in this race"
If Willie had taken the time to glance between the legs of some of the contenders, he might have worked that out for himself, with his extensive breeding knowledge after all

I don’t think it is a hard job having to remember five races and the form of the major contenders in each, in order to present a TV broadcast professionally, and it smacks of either laziness or incompetence when someone makes numerous errors.
I won’t miss him, though I suspect Outspan oranges might miss the odd bit of inadvertent free advertising on Willie’s perch

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
