I don’t know who would know but at Brighton tomorrow the highest rated horse is just 63 and the lowest 18.
Is racing getting this poor.June 6, 2022 at 18:26 #160095118 ….I could probably give that one a run for its money
June 6, 2022 at 18:35 #1600954I like Brighton but that is dismal. Should a horse with a rating of 18 even be in training?
June 6, 2022 at 19:42 #1600962This is truly tremendous stuff – thanks for drawing attention to it.
Looks like 59 with a 4lb penalty taking it to 63 as well.
10yo Doc Sportello is the quality act on the card.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 6, 2022 at 19:50 #1600964Who wins a match race
The 18 rated horse or frankel giving him 122lbs
Or for comedic value frankel with two jockeys on his back vs the 18 rated horse with one
June 6, 2022 at 20:07 #1600967Brighton Going: Good to Firm
1.00 Final Furlong Match Handicap 5f60yds
1. Frankel 16st 10lb
2. Ness Ta Rah 8st 5lbIt makes War Admiral v Sea Biscuit look tame tbf.
I’m all over Frankel tbh – it’s a downhill track so the sheer laws of gravity will make him go even faster carrying that weight!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 6, 2022 at 20:21 #1600971Ness Ta Rah is in a first time visor.
It could draw out a bit of improvement.
June 6, 2022 at 20:26 #1600973When asked to account for the colts improvement in form trainer Henry Cecil simply stated the handicapper drastically underrated his horse giving him just 140

And it’s only an extended five – the shorter the race, the better her chance, surely?
I’m still taking any even money that’s going about Frankel, though!

Or he could simply doubt that his opponent managed the run to the giddy heights of a mark of 18!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 6, 2022 at 20:38 #1600977Hilariously, being an ARC track it’s £20 (£17 plus the good old £3 “fulfilment fee”) to watch this equine quality feast tomorrow.
And that’s just basic admission – Premier enclosure is more.
I paid the same for Classic Trial Day at Sandown Park and half that for Blue Riband Trial Day at Epsom Downs.
ARC are the lowest of the low and I nowadays refuse to go racing at any ARC track on a point of general principle.

If it was at levels, I’d back current day Frankel to beat her. Or even Dubawi. Maybe not Istabraq.
Mind you she is a bit of a course specialist- 3 starts ago she beat more than one horse home here, and this was achieved in first time headgear too.
June 6, 2022 at 23:20 #1601022Her dam Point Perfect- the worst of her granddams unspectacular progeny- raced twice, achieving an RPR of 34. So brilliant that the owners saw fit to pass on her genetics 8 times. Ness Ta Rah isn’t even the worst of the 8 foals. Her half sister Xanders Secret raced 3 times, her highest RPR being 6. The breeders should be forced to watch that Australian slaughterhouse documentary on a loop.
June 6, 2022 at 23:29 #16010246? Jesus lol
Are these thoroughbreds or dairy cows?
June 6, 2022 at 23:37 #1601025And RPR, like Timeform, tend to be higher than OR.
6 might be an OR of minus 1!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 7, 2022 at 00:16 #1601031Maybe it was two fat blokes in a panto horse costume
Though they’d surely get an RPR of 10
June 7, 2022 at 02:17 #1601035The dam Point Perfect has had her progeny placed in a Group 3 race, and 4 different winners to boot. Therefore I’d question if the decision to breed from her was a bad one. I’m sure there must be plenty of far less successful broodmares who’ve produced more offspring.
Re breeding from untalented horses more generally, I think it depends on connections’ intentions. If you plan to keep the offspring regardless of their talent, I can’t see what the issue is. It’s only if you are intending to dispose of unsuccessful horses that it troubles me.
